Matt Damon Joins Human Factor

MandelaMatt Damon has joined Clint Eastwood’s Human Factor. We get the casting news thanks to the professionals at Variety:

Matt Damon has committed to star in “Human Factor,” joining Morgan Freeman in the Clint Eastwood-directed film for Warner Bros. Damon will play rugby star Francois Pienaar, who created, with Nelson Mandela, an event that gave whites and blacks in South Africa a common cause to rally around as the country was trying to heal from the wounds of apartheid.

The Anthony Peckham-scripted drama is an adaptation of John Carlin’s book “The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World.”

This film has “Oscar bait” tattooed on its face!

Nelson Mandela is a living legend and I am certain that legions of films will tell tales from his storybook life of triumph and reconciliation. This film seeks to tell the unique story of his rugby involvement. I had no idea rugby was used by Mandela to heal the nation, but sports are certainly a way in which you can bring a nation together in a positive manner.

I really like Clint as a director and look forward to seeing him work with Damon; I am confident the team up will pay quality dividends.

We will be on the hunt for news regarding this project and be sure to pass along any set shots and/or trailers as soon as they are made available. Until then, let the healing power of Rugby unite the globe!

  1. I’ve been saying for a LONG while to friends that Freeman should be cast as Mandela. Oscar bait fo sho.

Now cast Tom Hanks as Abe Lincoln, too. The two of them are actually related, so it’s perfect casting.
