Joshua Jackson Talks about Nearly being Cast as Batman

One actor that seems to always find himself on the wrong side of the fringe of awareness in Hollywood is Joshua Jackson. Today, MTV Movies Blog caught up with Jackson to talk about how close he got to nabbing the role of the Dark Knight himself in Batman Begins.

“I went and did the screen test,” “Shutter” star Joshua Jackson revealed to MTV News. “I was one the last four or five guys [up for the role of Batman.]”

Jackson as Batman over Christian Bale? It’s hard to believe how different the film would have been had he nabbed the part – perhaps most of all to Jackson himself.

“I don’t like to lose any job, but they cast the right guy,” he said. “I mean, Christian Bale was excellent. I don’t really think of myself in a sort of comic book hero way, you know what I mean? This might be why I didn’t get that job.”

Back in Fall of ’03 we posted about Jackson being considered for the role. Now there are a lot of roles I think Jackson could play, but for me Batman wouldnt be one of them.

He would fit the same problem as every other Batman since Keaton. They are either good at playing Batman, or good at playing Bruce Wayne. I think Jackson could be a decent Bruce Wayne, but not a Batman. I dont know why, I just cant see him as intimidating I guess. Clever, sophisicated, a little dark, snappy Bruce Wayne. Sure.

But what about Spiderman? Is he too mature? He can be funny, but he is more a dry wit than a wise cracking battle banter type.

  1. have you ever actually seen one josh jacksons movies??? he’s extremely talented and dedicated to every role he plays. he lives it. he was amazing in aurora borealis opposite donald sutherland. i have nothing against christian bale, but josh is not beneath him in the acting arena by any means or anywhere else for that matter. josh can be badass–ive seen it. if he’d been cast as batman he’d have pulled it off brilliantly. shutter will showcase some of his best acting yet.

  2. Yeah right, as if Jackson could even dream of playing in the same league as Christian Bale. Bale would have him for breakfast in the Badass-Category, that’s why he kicks ass as Batman.
I (finally) watched RESCUE DAWN the other day and Bale is the man. He is such a dedicated actor and in my book he’s the next Robert De Niro.

  3. Great call on the Spiderman portrayal. I think JJ would be excellent for it. I think he’d lead to a credible Parker and Spiderman, entering his mid-20’s… Interesting…
