Hathaway and McAvoy in talks for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

Because was kind of day would it be without Anne Hathaway being reported to be in talks for another role?

And this time the rumoured role is for Elizabeth Bennett in the oddly twisted classic literature adaptation littered up with the supernatural in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Geek Tyrant shares:

Anne Hathaway is being considered for the role of Elizabeth Bennett and James McAvoy for Darcy but for now just check this one up as a rumor. Natalie Portman who was going to take one of the roles is now just staying on as producer . Whether or not this film will ever get made is the big question.

I haven’t read the novel, but considering the three different adaptations on my shelf thanks to my wife, the best I can hope for is something new to the mix and that’s pretty much guaranteed with Zombies somehow involved in this turn of the century romance by Jane Austen.

James McAvoy is another name that seems to quietly be tossed around for rolls too. The guy has a lot of range and I would look forward to see him do just about anything wondering if he has limits.

But at the end of the day, the film itself has been struggling just to get made, so whether they are actually being considered or not is about as reliable as announcing a release date.

Still fun to think of them in the roles.

  1. This would be perfect casting, and the two had great chemistry in their previous movie together. Anne Hathaway is *funny* and could really pull off a role like this; McAvoy can do anything.

  2. I own the book and got about halfway through it. It was amusing, but even zombies and ninjas (yes, ninjas) couldn’t help make Jane Austen readable. I cried uncle and washed my eyes out with The Matrix to recover.

  3. Might be an odd casting choice, since Hathaway and McAvoy were in Becoming Jane together.

I think Hathaway would be good in this role. McAvoy doesn’t seem like a good Darcy to me. But then again, the film is about zombies, so maybe accuracy isn’t their main concern.
