Did Nolan Steal Inception from Scrooge McDuck?

It seems that Christopher Nolan isn’t as original as he thought! Ok, maybe he used a dream theif to get the idea from the Beagle Boys in Scrooge McDuck’s comic, but then aside from needing whatever it was that got Michael Jordan into the cartoon world in Space Jam, he would also need a Delorean so he could travel into the future.

Geeks of Doom share:

The panel seen here is from “The Dream of a Lifetime,” where The Beagle Boys use a special machine to enter Scrooge’s dream in an effort to extract information so they can steal his money. The story appeared in an issue of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck published in 2002.

You eagle-eyed viewers might say that this comic is before Inception was released, but Christopher Nolan actually had thought about these ideas on and off since he was sixteen years old and first pitched the idea to Warner Bros. in 2001.

So while the idea may have been teased at in a Disney comic, there is no connection between Inception and this cartoon.

But still fun to hear about these genuine coincidences.

  1. Ripping off scrooge mcduck? That’s incredible. Maybe he had the idea in the same time. It happened to me so many times, thinking my idea was original and then found out that it was used before.

  2. wrong! Elm Street is just entering dream like you said,
But Paprika couldn’t identify which world they were and couldn’t reveal who was behind it, and etc, sure the they both were different theme, for instance, INCEPTION would enter one mind to get information but realizes they are still in dream,

As Paprika, no matter which dream they are, they can’t ever know which is reality and who is behind it!

Elm Street, the minute u see something ODD they already know they are in the dream.

I still say Paprika is very similar to the INCEPTION!

  3. actually my favourite director righ tnow is CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, but inception i like the movie, the reason why i don’t love the movie cause there is already another movie like INCEPTION, and seriously

it’s almost 90 percent same, ITS AN ANIME!!!!

    PAPRIKA,

If you watched this movie which i did before INCEPTION, then you’ll see how similar they are…

I watched Inception and I felt pissed because I felt like he littlerally took that idea…

  4. I had to change a story of mine after watching Batman Begins. The dynamic between Bruce and Fox and even some of the gear he gets and how was WAY!! too similar to a story I had written. Kinda irked me.

  5. HA!

You know, there’s also an episode of Ducktales that is incredibly similar to the indie film “Cashback,” in which Scrooge’s nephews can freeze time. Similar except for the nudity element of course…

  6. Simultaneous thinking is interesting. Like how they say the guy writing that new X-men movie had to rewrite/remove about 12 pages of his script because what he had thought of was too similar to the hotel scene in Inception.

      1. Its interesting that these co-incidences happen sometimes in film. Two separate people come up with a similar idea at around the same time not influenced by each other at all.

And yes. Nolan is clearly stealing ideas from people’s dreamscapes… how else is he hitting it out of the park so consistently.

        One word… Delorean.

      2. he is british, so instead of delorean, he is using Dr. Who’s phone booth. Less cumbersome, easy to use, and eliminate the chance of you getting struck by inadverdently lightning while time traveling.

      3. Easy to use?

Have you seen the controls on the Tardis? Hardly easy. And if you have even seen the opening credits of Dr Who, the Tardis gets hit by lightning all the time!

Delorean just has to type in the date and tear out to 88mph. Done.

        lol
