Mamma Mia is headed into the Hollywood machine to churn out a sequel to the highly successful musical featuring the stylings of Abba.
But will it be the music of Abba? One might presume as much considering the title, and Seyfried has expressed her feelings of leaving out Abba.
There seems to be some confusion among the movie’s cast as to exactly what songs they’ll be singing in the next film. Last month Colin Firth said here that they’d be picking a new band to provide the sequel’s lyrics but Seyfried insists, “I know it’s still going to be Abba music, because what else would it be. Come on, I wouldn’t do Mamma Mia 2 without Benny and Bjorn.”
I was conflicted with Mamma Mia, but I enjoyed the music and especially the surprisingly adorable vocal talents of Amanda Seyfried. But I also wondered exactly who lost a big game of poker to get Brosnan in there. Man he was terrible.
But still, Mamma Mia made tons of money so why not do a sequel. Maybe Seyfried will sleep around with three different guys then hatch an elaborate plot to lure them to her island paradise to find out who the baby daddy is. Maury can cameo.
So If you don’t like ABBA music, can’t stand the handsome Mr. Brosnan, than stay home. I was never particularly a fan of either, but I saw the movie 4 times and have the DVD and the soundtrack CD. I saw the roadshow production of Mamma Mia last night at the Shubert New Haven and was enthralled all over again. Everyone left smiling, just as at the cinema. What’s so bad about feeling good? Some people just have to have something to complain about.
And you just found your thing to complain about.

No thank you. One was enough. Why does every successful film have to have a sequel?
I watched Mama Mia and I gotta say I would have enjoyed it more if they would have upgraded the music. Sure they had the signature songs that you know and love, then there were some truly horrendous songs that just made the movie lag and I couldn’t wait for them to stop singing.
The only bright for me was Amanda Seyfried, other than that I think a sequel is in need of more consistent song choices and better quality singers or don’t bother.
Despite not being a fan of Mamma Mia I can see why it was so popular, but any attempt to make a sequel can only be seen for what it is, an attempt to drain every penny out of a successful movie. I doubt they will be able to capture the magic of the first movie, no matter what music is used and it will end up being totally pointless like farting in a colander!

I am irrationally exuberant at the thought of a MM sequel. As for Brosnan, dude sang his heart out in spite of having no singing talent, which just makes him more awesome.
I haven’t seen Amanda Seyfried in much, but I think she’s one of the only dependable young actresses in Hollywood. I thought she was the best of the cast in both Jennifer’s Body and Mamma Mia! I seriously hope she gets some awards kudos some day. Glad to see she’ll be involved in the sequel… of course, Mamma Mia! is an odd movie to have a sequel to…
