Matt Damon is OK with More Bourne

I liked the Bourne Identity movies a fair bit. I kinda thought this was more how I would like to see James Bond until Craig took over that mantle. He does a fine job making Bond kickass just as Matt Damon gives that believable ass kickery to Jason Bourne.

So are we saddened that the Bourne Trilogy is over? Not so much. It was done well, but I am usually against racing with a retired horse. What does Matt Damon think about it?

IESB quotes him saying:

“Personally, the character means a lot to me because the character has done so much for my career. You know, it put me in the position where I have a lot more choices of kind of movies I want to make,” he said in Tokyo.

“If Paul Greengrass, maybe years down the road, was interested in doing another one, then I would do it, too,” he said. “I don’t think either of us completely put the character to bed yet.”

I would be more worried that they would take it too far, spoil a good thing and ruin a wonderful character that was wonderfully played.

Its bittersweet, but I would sooner Damon left it alone than ran it into the ground. But who knows? Maybe he will revisit the character in the future (clearly he is willing) and they will have another winner on their hands.

  1. the whole point to these bourne movies was that he was reactive.trouble found bourne. he was ALWAYS being chased, and barely escaping, a 4th film will ruin that for me. he knows who he is. no one is looking for him. leave it at that

it was so obvious from watching these movies that Bourne could disappear, live a semi-normal life and never be found, trying to make a film in which he’ll be “Bond-quese” is retarded. it was never made clear that bourne would act proactive, (meaning he’ll go out and find trouble) why start now?

this is simply Damon respecting a character that has brought him more fame and more money, thats fine…he’s greatful, but know when to stop

  2. You can not go buy whats in the books. The only thing the films got from the books were the titles of the books, name of some of characters, and the amnesia part. The films were nothing like the books. I personally would like to see more movies.

  3. bassturd, you are spot on.

The 3 Bourne movies can be entirely summarized in one sentence:
“Jason Bourne runs away from peope, mostly in crowded areas”
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed all three movies for their entertainig style and action sequences, but the Bourne-Trilogy is much less deep on plot then people give it credit for.
A fourth movie would have to bring in an actual story. The story in the first 3 was the same everytime. And then? Does Bourne become Bond? Does he go on under-cover missions? Who needs that? Bourne itself is a shallow and uninteresting character, James Bond is far superior.
So I’d rather stick to the Bond-franchise and enjoy the Bourne-Trilogy as it is, thank you.

Oh, and by the way: It’s funny, before BOURNE ULTIMATUM came out Matt Damon said more than once: “This is definetly the last one for me!” Nice to see how quickly he changed his mind after he saw the bucks start rolling in. I would have thought he’s above that stuff now.

  4. Man, I’m mixed on this. On one hand, the movies rock, and I’d be happy to watch another one. On the other hand, I don’t want them to go screwing up a good thing by stretching it out longer than need be.

  5. 3rd one was my favorite but if they make more they need to come up with something original. 3 movies now of him just running from people. Which was fun, but a 4th movie of him fleeing would be a little silly. I dunno what the other books are about so mabey they are different. I think I remeber reading somewhere the he joins up with some agency and becomes an assassin again…but that doesn’t seem likely because it seems the whole point was for him to get out of that.

  6. Im sorry but I just dont agree Eric.I think that the Bourne movies are quite good, and have potential beyond most franchises.Damon is a very talented actor;and with a character as interesting as Bourne, more films would add to the triligy. Some films(Pirates,Shrek, ect.) ruined thier own sequels because they were films in which their uniqueness was lost by the third film, everything interesting to be told about the characters had already been shown. But seeing as how good the Utlimatum was,I think bourne character is far from dried up.

  7. I love the Bourne trilogy. But thats what it should stay as, A TRILOGY.
I fear that if they make anymore they’ll ruin the great character and drag down the previous films. It ended. Let it stay ended.
