Yes yes I know… Fantastic Four was a bad movie. Many things wrong with it. I acknowledge that without hesitation… however… the film also did some things right and it ended up being a movie I got a kick out of at times and it gave me some good chuckles along the way. Not all Superhero movies can or SHOULD be Batman.
One of the elements that I thought had a lot of potential was the character of Dr. Doom. No, they didn’t use him right… but by the time they got to him in his armour, I actually like the way his persona came across. Supremely confident, almost laid back in his evilness. But then… just as his character was starting to get good… the movie was over. But just recently the folks over at ComingSoon had a chat with Doom himself, Julian McMahon, and asked him what we can expect from Doom in Fantastic Four 2. Sounds like some good stuff actually:
first of all, you start with Dr. Doom has been in a casket for a couple of years and wakes up a few years later, whatever. And he’s pretty pissed off, kind of just rips off his mask and all that kind of stuff. He gets very ugly. And then he’s got his lair set up in some castle in Latveria, right? He sees this kind of entity which is the Silver Surfer. Just knowing the comic books, Dr. Doom is Dr. Doom so what does he do? He goes and he tries to destroy everybody and get everybody’s powers and all that kind of stuff. That’s basically what the character’s about. But then Dr. Doom becomes me for a certain period of time which I think is very strange but let’s not get into that. And then the final costume is this pretty amazing costume. It’s a similar kind of mask. It’s kind of a larger type of fit and probably a little more sturdy kind of look to it. The chest plate, it’s a very heavy outfit. It weighed about 45 -50 pounds whatever without the cape and stuff but its pretty extraordinary. It’s a darker suit than the one he had last time its kind of more Batmanesque in a way, but with the mask its obviously very Dr. Doom, and it’s a great looking outfit and he’s got like a…..God, I can’t remember. Look, I got so many outfits its ridiculous. [laughs]
i know I’m in the minority on this, but I for one am pretty glad they’re giving Doom a significant role in the this film (although we don’t really know how significant yet). I liked the character and what he seemed to be becoming by the end of the first movie… and I’m curious to see how they evolve him in the second.
Julian McMahon is great to look at. GREAT to look at. That’s the only positive thing I can say.
i really didnt have any problem with the first one, it wasnt great or anything, but it was okay…..

i didn’t like the first one but I am liking what I see so far from the trailers….who knows…..maybe they have a good film in them
PS) Dr. Doom was probably the coolest part about FF1 and i think he will BREAK some asses in FF2. here’s hoping anyway.
yeah, FF1 wasn’t great and a lot of the acting was not good and yeah, even some of the actors weren’t that well picked but i try to look at it as simply opening the door. the FF2 teaser gave me goosebumps but the extended trailer with Sue Storm saying “I’m so hot for you” and Johnny Blaze grabbing Mr. Fantastic and saying “me too” makes my heart sink a malenky.
but the bottom line; i think FF2 will still kick FF1’s ass quite thoroughly. then again, i was quite excited about War of the Worlds and X-Men3.

I think this (whatever) film is going to surprise (whatever) a lot of people (whatever). The Silver Surfer (whatever) is going to be awe(whatever)some. The Torch and the (whatever) Thing were already great. It sounds (whatever) like Doom is going to finally (whatever) be the kick ass Dr (whatever) Doom that we all want him to (whatever) be. Alba’s hotter than fresh biscuits (no joke. she’s really hot). We dont (whatever) have to deal with the origin (whatever) this time. (whatever) Mr Fantastic looks like he might grow (whatever) some balls and become the leader (whatever) we know he can be.
Plus Galactus (whatever) too.
This one is (whatever) going to be good. I think even (whatever) the people who absolutely hated the (whatever) first one are going to dig (whatever) it. I know I’m (whatever) going to, but then, I also (whatever) liked the first (whatever) one. So what do I (whatever) know?

I second the Thing’s and Human Torch’s chemistry, it was perfect.

Doom in the first movie was hard to hear, his lines like he was poorly miked or dubbed the entire film. I hope that is fixed this go-around.

Seems interesting whatever. Sound like a type of villain whatever I could get behind whatever. Hopefully, whatever, they’ll make this movie better than the whatever first one.

I liked FF1 and have FF2 on my calendar. I thought Chiklis and Evans both nailed their characters.
im in the minority when i say i didnt have fun with this flick at all…..the lines were corny and forced, acting was terrible and the casting sucked…doom is a cool character anyway so its nice to see him back…hopefully he’ll be more evil in this one…the only reason i might rent this from blockbuster is silver surfer and galuctus….

he is a great actor, but the character wasn’t used in the right way. but it’s great that they left the door open so they can use him again, they gave themselves a second chance to do thing right with doom.
i feel FF 2 will be a bad bad film, but i hope it’s not, i hope they use silver surfer in the right way and hope galactus kicks some asses, but something tells me they’ll will do the same as in the last one: bad script, bad acting especially chris evans he acts like crap, and with nifty SFX but horrible action sequences.
Sometimes, when going to a movie, you just want to be entertained. Sure Fantastic Four didn’t deserve any awards, but it was pretty fun I thought. Now that the back story is out of the way, maybe this second movie will be a little better quality AND fun :)
