Hitcher remake gets a deal

Hitcher.jpgWe reported about this way back in February, well okay not that way back, but it now seems that there is a deal together for the re-making of The Hitcher. Details from MovieWeb:

According to Variety, looking to scare up another horror remake hit, Platinum Dunes has made a deal with Focus Features to redo 1986 pic The Hitcher. The film will be released through Focus’ genre label, Rogue Pictures.

The deal marks the third remake for Platinum Dunes since it was formed by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller to hatch low-cost genre fare.

I thought that the remaking of the classic Chainsaw Massacre was bad enough, but Hitcher is awesome as it is. I watched it recently and I still think it’s an incredible movie, I can’t see them doing anything with it but destroy it, and who could possibly dream of taking over Rutger Hauer‘s role and trying to replicate that stunning performance?

  1. Odd…I was convinced I read a comment that suggested the guy from Alias who plays her father would make a good Hitcher…and actually he might pull off a not bad job. He does have the underlying charisma to do it. That feeling that in a second he would just snap your neck. Very cold and calculating.

  2. I’m going to state right now – I’m totally against this remake. The original is a great flick and I don’t need an “updated” version. I’m calling for a boycott!! ;)

  3. Didnt they do a sequel to this like in the early 90’s? or a TV remake? Oh well…..I’m sure Michael Bay and all his attention to script details….we’ll be fine!============
This is exactly why I will say it again: There are less and less good scripts and directors to go with a good idea. Why do you think that we get excited when QT comes out with something……I would watch his Birthday Video’s or why Peter Jackson is a god or why Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich SUCK! ARGGGGGGGGG! I’ve got Ice Cream Brain FREEZE and not a drop of mint choc chip anywhere!

  4. The Hitcher is a great flick. I saw it on the big screen at a midnight showing a while back and the movie was perfect. No one could do what Rutger Hauer did, he was scary, creepy, the Hitcher no one would ever want to pick up.
