Spy Hunter orders another rewrite

SpyHunter.jpgIt’s not unusual – I’m not going to sing – to see a multitude of screen writers on a single movie, especially through the life of it’s early production. However IGN FilmForce are suggesting it might be suggesting all is not well with the script for Spy Hunter:

Stuart Beattie is rewriting the game-to-film adaptation of Spy-Hunter, according to today’s Variety.

Universal had hired X2 and Elektra scribe Zak Penn to brush-up the script, but that apparently didn’t come out satisfactorily. Previous writers that have contributed to the project include 2 Fast 2 Furious scribes Michael Brandt & Derek Haas and Freddy Vs. Jason writers Mark Swift & Damian Shannon.

As I say, it’s not particularly a big deal, but it does show that current stabs at the script haven’t been up to what the team are looking for. Let’s hope that team means Director more than Studio.

  1. I don’t think Splinter Cell would make a generic movie. It’s got an excellently developed plot, being written by movie screenwriters already.

I agree with Spyhunter though. Where’s the uniqueness? Spy has car with fancy gadgets and kills baddies. Mmmm.

  2. I dont get it.. There are some games that **COULD** be really good movies like Resident Evil or Final Fantasy. Then there are games like Spy Hunter and Splinter Cell that are good games, but make very generic movies which have nothing in common with the game except the name.
