THE RED TURTLE:
The Oscar nominated best animated feature film is finally available for you to get a hold of without any excuses. Directed wonderfully by Michael Dudok de Wit and in collaborating with animation house Studio Ghibli. The story is of a castaway man who is stuck on an island with turtles, crabs and birds. It follows his trials and tribulations. On the surface it may be a bit startling to imagine the movie is dialogue-less, but the storytelling is so flawless that it doesn’t even factor. Visually it’s a simple, yet very effective throwback. There is no CGI or computer animation, it’s pure hand drawn animation. The film has the look of an elaborate picture book. Just wonderful all-around look and story. On the plus side, the red turtle is pretty spectacular and as a turtle owner, of course I loved that.
