Could Matthew Vaughn be the Director for Star Wars VII?

Now this is clearly speculation at this point but there is a rumor going around that Matthew Vaughn, Director of “Kick-Ass” and “X-Men: First Class,” may be in negotiations to direct the next Star Wars film. While nothing is officially confirmed, Collider seems to have a reliable source for the news.

I only decided to run this because I trust my sources and it’s Star Wars. In addition, while I spent all weekend trying to lock this story down, all my normal connections would not go on record (or they did not know), so this is going up as a “rumor” and “unconfirmed.”

I’m hearing that Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-Ass, Stardust, Layer Cake, and X-Men: First Class, is in talks with Lucasfilm to helm Star Wars: Episode VII. My sources tell me this is the main reason he dropped out of the X-Men sequel (which Bryan Singer is now directing). Hit the jump for more.

If this rumor is true, could Matthew Vaughn be a worthy option to direct the next “Star Wars” film? I honestly think that there will be criticism of anyone sitting in the director’s chair for the next film. It’s “Star Wars” and with so many fans, we’ll never be fully satisfied because we will never get back that experience that we got when viewing the original trilogy, which will always be a base for comparison. As an avid fan I’d like to make a few simple suggestions for whoever directs the next film. Ensure that the film has more action (lots of lightsabers) and less child comic relief characters, ensure that the score is on point with previous films, and ensure that there are worthy actors with decent dialogue between them. That is all that I ask…

About Ryan

First and foremost, Ryan Brown is a fan. He has been an avid fan of both the theater and cinema since an early age and his passion for both has been continually growing ever since. When dissecting a film, he focuses on all elements of film-making including some fan/cult factors. He believes that character development is the foundation of a good film and usually starts his analysis of a film from there moving forward. His writing style may be influenced by his background of narrative and argumentative studies in the subject, but he tends to enjoy a more conversational style to better interact with the readers, unlike some other pretentious and pompous writers.

  1. This is fantastic news… I have always thought that Lucas should have had a vague outline of the prequel trilogy and handed it off to capable writers and directors, doing so in the 3rd trilogy might just make up for the mess that the prequel trilogy was…
