While Pixar fans may list Cars as one of the less popular franchises, but there is one reason why its getting a sequel before they consider The Incredibles 2 or any other property.
Merchandising.
Long after Cars has ended its theatrical run, it still has an impressive haul of toys constantly being released. This film will just add fuel to that fire so they can sell even more toys.
Some features were released online showing off some of the toys and Collectibles coming out.
And this is what Caine was talking about. The Lightning McQueen Alive car. The most impressive thing about this is how tiny it is and the articulation they manage to put in it.
Pretty cool stuff.
