Audio Edition – February 23rd 2006

Today on The Audio Edition Doug and I discuss the beautiful Anne Hathaway and her castingin the new Judd Apatow film “Knocked Up”, the upcoming Howard Stern Film Festival, the stupid morons over at “Craig Not Bond . Com” and the bigger issue of “What is more importnat? The actor with the most talent, or the actor that looks more like the character?” And finally the stupid attempt by Damon Wayans to trademark the term “Nigga” so he can launch a clothing line by the same name.

  1. never, EVER, promote Ebaumsworld ever again. That douchebag is a multimillionaire through ads on that site, and he did it by stealing content from every other person on the net. those sites were not truly submitted , he raids funny things other people make, slaps on a watermark and doesnt credit them. theres many sites that do this, but the difference is they CREDIT and will link to the author of the pieces.

    I spit on Ebaumsworld. PTOUIE.

  2. I hate agreeing with John coz I know how much he loves being right, but, Dougie is WRONG WRONG WRONG. It is all about the actor – not the look. It is fantastic to see a fine actor that perhaps doesn’t meet your expectation of a particular look, and then for them to suck you in and dominate the role with their ability and adaption. Dougie you are being superficial and shallow!!!!!!!! But you make me chuckle so I’ll forgive you.

  3. Hey, Cole…I’m glad you brung up Jessica Alba in FF. Her casting didn’t upset the fans of the comic too much until they witnessed her dismal acting onscreen. Then folks complained. It was a slightly different situation…except Alba shot back, claiming the criticism was because of predudice. While I think Alba wasn’t great, THANK GOD they didn’t cast Elisha Cuthbert, who is twenty times worse…either that, or Elisha Cuthbert just picks crappy films. ‘Girl Next Door’ anybody? ‘House Of Wax’ (which, to be fair, had a good third act)?

I actually thought about Kelly Preston would have been better, believe it or not.

    Yes, Kelly Preston…Or Meg Ryan.

No, I am not smoking crack.

  4. Agreed about Alba in F4. I couldn’t get past the fact that she and her “brother” looked nothing alike. Why put blue contacts on her and dye her hair when you can just go get Elisha Cuthbert?

And I’m not going to stand outside the theater and protest Casino Royale, but I was very disappointed that Craig was selected as Bond. It might work out okay, I don’t know. You have to reserve final judgement for the finished movie, but for right now, I’m not too jazzed about it.

  5. Doug was once again right with yet another counterpoint to John. Matching the look of the actor and the character is extremely important. And in many situations then going for the look is more important than going for the talent. Sometimes you get lucky and a talented actor looks exactly like the character like with spiderman. Sometimes they’re close enough that you can ignore something like the height of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. And sometimes you cast way off base in hopes of doing something different and end up destroying the whole thing like Jessica Alba as Invisible Girl.

Alba may be a hot chick to draw the kids but since everything was wrong with her look then it pulled away from the character she was portraying. Throw in someone who fits the look like Elisha Cuthbert and that bad movie wouldve actually went up a few notches because at least a good casting gives the possibility of a good franchise.

So just like with Bond, if they didn’t match the actor with the established bond image then you can’t get mad at anyone for being doubters. Sean Connery is arguably the best bond, but if he was announced to play bond again then people would have a hard time accepting a bald bearded old guy to fit the sophisticated playboy we’ve got imprinted in our minds.

Anyway, I’m not one of those silly protesters. If the trailer is good i’ll give it a shot. But they will have to work harder to sell the movie because so far i’ve got zero interest.

  6. I was wondering about the absense of the Scot; perhaps Richard will appear sometime this weekend…with the Movie Blog poll results from a long, long, time ago (or are they that tough to tally up? Is it a lost cause?)

Anyway, back to the Audio Edition and my thoughts:

    1) Howard Stern’s film fest. Not a novel idea- there is Triggersteet, for example, which has short films that are under ten minutes. Some good, some juvinile bad. The best of these films have a Film Fest onn the East Coast anually. Still, any exposure for new filmmakers can’t be all bad- my feelings about Howard Stern and his content on his radio show and when he was on E! aside. No, I don’t think Stern is funny. I think he is a shock jock and nothing more.

Still, I would crank out a five pager on my Final Draft program…and see who has a good HDV camera. I still got my halogen lights…

    2) While I’m on your 5% John, I want to go on record here. Be careful of your free use of the word ‘everyone’. I didn’t mind Keaton as Batman when he was being cast for the part (Burton was casting ‘Wayne’, not Batman) in fact, I recall I was more concerned about a fat Joker…I didn’t mind when Hugh Jackman was cast as Wolverine (a few months before the film came out, he appeared on the ‘Tonight Show’ and belted out a few bars of ‘Oklahoma!’-and right there I knew this guy had talent) I never bitched about Spider-Man webshooters….like I said on the post, these alleged Bond fans are shit out of luck. Craig is Blonde. Holy crap up a flagpole. In all the stills his freaking hair is DYED. Even freaking George Lanszby had one Bond film. Let Craig have at least one. Shockingly, > but I thought he was good in Munich, and Road To Perdition.

Oh, French actor Sameul Le Bihan, had he kept his locks from Brotherhood Of The Wolf, would have made a decent Thor. Oh screw it anyway… the closest Doug Nagy will get to Thor is : Ultimate Avengers cartoon DVD

    Adventures In Babysitting and

‘Return Of The Incrdible Hulk/Lou Ferrigno (*now a lawman!) TV movie, which guest starred Andy Dick.

    3) Damon Wayans can be a funny guy. But his propsed patent is idiotic.

I don’t want to see any commericial where someone comes up, admires the threads and shout with glee “DAMN! WHERE’D YOU GET THEM NIGGAZ?” or worse- “I’m going to go to the store and buy a pair of-”

But, if such a word were patented, imagine all the hard core gangsta rappers paying Wayans royalties every time they say the word and use that spelling therof.

They need not worry if some non-black folk do not buy the line. If Wayans wants a dollar out of me or others, he’ll have to settle on making another movie.
