As we enter mid-June the week of June 13 offers some interesting releases. The movies on this list include Blu-ray/DVD, VOD and limited theatrical releases. This week doesn't have the big blockbuster home releases, but it offers some really fun films. Without further notice, here are the must see movies for the week: THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE: https://youtu.be/rGQUKzSDhrg This movie releases less than a week after the death of the original Batman Adam West. Interestingly enough West's Batman is referenced and paid homage to in the film. The LEGO movies have been box office hits and LEGO Batman is no different, especially in terms of quality. I had a blast watching this. It is a lot of fun. What's great about it is that even though I must have been the only person in the theater over the age of 11 (parents excluded), I still found this movie to be more relatable to me than the kids who packed the theater. The humor and inside jokes are slightly raunchy and adult themed, but not inappropriate for the kiddos who will be mesmerized by the cool LEGO figurines coming to life on screen. There are so many classic Batman references to make you smile. Kids and adults, this film is for everyone. Check out the Blu-ray for some neat bonus features. This movie shed a bit of light on that and more. The movie tells the story about the time in history that isn't commented or know to most the Holodomor that Joseph Stalin orchestrated a famine against the people of Ukraine. The film is one that will make you feel a lot. It also has a strong romantic aspect to it amid all the war and struggle. I liked the young talented cast that includes Max Irons. This is a story that should have been told on film already, but it's finally getting its due. With the recent issues between Russia and Ukraine, this is ironically a relevant story today. This is a significant film that's compelling to watch. Bitter Harvest is out now on DVD, Digital HD and On Demand JOHN WICK : CHAPTER 2: https://youtu.be/nMqETeQrgqU Let's face it, you loved John Wick. It was a fresh and badass film you never expected seeing. Keanu Reeves re-established himself as a big draw and it's thanks to this character. In Chapter 2 Wick travels to Rome to take care of business and deal with some of the world's worst. If you enjoyed the action of the first movie, then you'll definitely enjoy this one. Lot of similar style of stunts and action that works again. This is a really cool franchise and the best thing this film did was to stick to the same tone and feel of the first film. John Wick fans will really like it and new John Wick fans come aboard. The Blu-ray offers a plethora of special features. I was very surprised at the amount of bonus content included. Definitely worth buying. John Wick: Chapter 2 is available now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD ONCE UPON A TIME IN VENICE: https://youtu.be/VWV4rxyA-70 Fittingly the same week John Wick 2 comes out on Blu-ray and DVD, Once Upon a Time in Venice hits movie theaters and VOD. Why am I referencing this? Well, this film is a basically a comedy version of John Wick. If you were to blend Keanu (not Reeves, but the movie) and John Wick then you would get Once Upon a Time in Venice. That's definitely not a bad thing. The film boasts a stellar cast that's lead by Bruce Willis, but includes John Goodman, Jason Mamoa, Thomas Middleditch and Famke Jannsen. Mamoa plays a Mexican drug dealer and it's the complete opposite against type kinda role, far removal from Aquaman. This movie was fun with a solid action plot to follow. An under-the-radar entertaining movie with a very good cast. Definitely worth a look this week. Once Upon A Time In Venice is out now in select theaters, VOD and Digital HD SOUTH PARK: THE COMPLETE TWENTIETH SEASON: https://youtu.be/TNN9SkjC4I8 I remember just recently doing this very weekly must see movie review for South Park season 19, we are now at season 20! There are very few shows in the history of television that make it to a 20th season, this is an incredible feat for a show that keeps on running. This season has 10 badass episodes that tackle some interesting issues including the 2016 presidential election. Oh, and Cartman gets a girlfriend also. The show is just as fun, witty and hilarious as ever. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are truly remarkable to keep coming up with relevant storylines and putting their unique spin on it. The Blu-ray comes with a few cool bonus features. South Park: The Complete Twentieth Season is out now on Blu-ray and DVD TABLE 19: https://youtu.be/SRVzyiM8Sgo The movie plot sets up table 19 as one that you don't want to be part of, but once you see the movie it's the perfect table to entertain you. The film stars Anna Kendrick as the girl who is supposed to be a maid of honor at a friends wedding, that is until she gets dumped by her boyfriend who is the best man, but that doesn't stop Kendrick's character from attending this wedding. She's seated with a group of wedding misfits with unique stories and personalities. I liked the premise of the film. Simple but effective and relatable, because I certainly remember a couple weddings I was invited to and had to sit with strangers that were far away cousins or something of the wedding couple. Table 19 features an eclectic group of talented actors that includes Lisa Kudrow and Craig Robinson among others. It's a movie that will make you laugh and possibly relate to the situation the characters are placed in. Definitely a sleeper kinda film that you should check out.
