The long rumoured return of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is being fast tracked for a 2012 release and Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are diligently working on a script.
Paramount has brought on the writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Punisher: War Zone) to put together a new script. “The studio is looking at this as its next huge franchise, like Transformers,” a source told Deadline.
The studio is fast-tracking the project and wants a first draft by October so it can begin searching for a director and finally release the film by 2012.
This is being proposed as a live action film, and while the hokey goofball version in the 90s just doesn’t hold up, the recent Animated version is a step in the direction I would rather see them do. At least in tone.
But live action will be hard to pull off. If they go with “man in suit” Turtles, but I can’t see that working. More likely it will be CG Turtles with “man in mo-cap suit” instead. But if they mess up and don’t make these Turtles beyond realistic, then it has no chance.
