Brendan Fraser and The Rock Land Roles In G.I. Joe?

ParrotWe have even more G.I. Joe casting news today. Brendan Fraser and The Rock may be involved in the upcoming picture; we get wind of this news thanks to the Latino Review:

I have just learned through my sources that BRENDAN FRASER has booked the role of GUNG HO for Stephen Sommer’s big screen live-action adaptation of “G.I. Joe.” Now, it is only a one scene cameo. The scene is question is a training sequence at THE PIT. Brendan already shot his part. I also learned that AN OFFER has been made to THE ROCK for the role of HECTOR DELGADO aka SHIPWRECK. At this time THE ROCK hasn’t said either yes or no, but the offer is out to him.

I have serious reservations about this film, and these casting announcements will not change that fact. I am certainly not looking forward to this movie, and am disappointed that this is the case. I have always loved the G.I. Joe Universe, and often hoped as a youngster for a live action adaptation.

Mr. Fraser will need to shave his head and get a chest tattoo; the makeup department will have to spend hours drawing an eagle on his torso. It seems a bit strange to bring in Fraser for one scene, if they are going to have short drop in appearances from a myriad of characters, unknown actors would work just as fine as bigger name celebrities. Perhaps thy are trying to use star power as a tractor beam

I will admit that the idea of The Rock as Shipwreck tickled my fancy. Shipwreck is a fast talking, smooth operator and The Rock has similar gifting of gab. He has yet to agree to the project, so we will have to wait and see if he decides to climb aboard this sinking ship. If Shipwreck is in this film – he better have a parrot.

  1. Brendan Fraser really needs to find a black hole to fall into so I am not subjected to him and his shit anymore.

As for my future fuck buddy The Rock, he can’t do any worse than that Tooth Fairy movie he signed on for. Or the Escape From Witch Mountain remake he’s doing now. I’ve heard him say that he doesn’t want to do an action movie unless it’s on the level of the Bourne franchise, but with his track record, he won’t be offered any quality roles anymore. Christ, that guy is so hot and charismatic. He has such potential, and he is just squandering it like I can’t believe. If this is how he’s going to waste his time, why’d he even bother leaving WWE? Why not just go back to WWE, get on a ton of ‘roids, and then go kill your family or something? That would be much more noteworthy than anything he’s been doing lately. His career started out pretty promisingly, especially after The Rundown, but it’s been downhill ever since. Dude makes Cuba Gooding Jr look like Peter O’Toole, for fuck’s sake.

  2. i can see the rock as the navy seal, and i havent seen enough to say if this movie will be good or bad- heck this is a rumor we dont even know if the rock is going to play the role of shipwreck

  3. I’m trying to stay optimistic about the Joe movie. The funny thing is that I always believed we would get one eventually but never thought we’d get a Transformers movie (just because i didn’t think any studio was willing to invest $200 million into a film primarily based on a toy line).

But i’m getting a real X-Men 3 vibe about this film if you know what i mean; the feeling that they’re throwing every character and his vehicle into this film, just to keep the fans happy which may result in a film that’s entertaining but rushed and with barely any characters getting any proper development………….and this is the first G.I.Joe movie.

    God, i hope i’m wrong.

  4. This could be good for The Rock. He needs to be in more over the top action movies. I’m not too bothered about the casting so far of this movie, I love the Snake Eyes picture, I do have a feeling that G.I JOE might not be anything fantastic.
