What wondrous web slinging news this Wednesday morning! Just a few moons ago, word was going around that Toby Maguire had no interest in doing a fourth installment of Spider-Man. Today the word on the street is that he would consider it. SCI FI WIRE gives us the following:
“Well, it’s possible that we make another movie,” Maguire said in an interview. “It all depends on if there’s a story worth telling. I feel very proud of the three movies that we’ve made. I feel like the stories all deserve to be told, and, you know, if they come up with a good movie, and the whole team wants to get back together, and we feel like we can make a good movie that’s worth making, then I’m up for it.”
I love the Spider-Man films, and am confident that if they keep Raimi and team on board – they will continue to be great. Maguire is sensational as Spidey, and having him leave is not an option as far as I am concerned. Maguire’s condition on the quality of the story only strengthens my hope; and sets ablaze my fires of excitement.
…I hope he fights Mysterio.
well your all forgetting one thing, they’re gonna have to find a way to either cover sandman up or kill him early because remember he some how flew away after the spidey venom fight, but other than that there are rumors that it is going to be mysterio, lizard and probably carnage because remember that connor still has the black venom piece that peter gave him so Raimi could do something with that…

well if they all come back to do a fourth venom will be bak….i believe it would be carnage venom and some other guy(cant remember his name)for the fourth..but i duno if they would do a sinister six seeing as how doc octs dead and that kingpin hasnt been intruduced..and i dought he will since they introduced him in “daredevil” but hey anything is possible right

While discussing the possible film on the 80’s rock/punk group Blondie (and they were before The Tide Was High) , that lovely Blabbermouth named Kirsten Dunst talked about if she were involved with Spider-Man 4. This was the inteview with REUTERS from a few days ago. Dunst said IF Raimi is back, everyone (whose characters are not offed in 3) will be back because they are like “a team”.
This news backs it up- and Reuters is trustworthy enough.
As much as I’d like to se Mysterio, it’s more built up towards Lizard. Lizard would be a more personal villian, perhaps filling a void that will be soon vacated by…
I’m thinking maybe Electro, Kraven or Black Cat. I’d even accept Jonas Harrow, creating/enchancing lesser Spidey villians (Hammerhead, Kangaroo, Willo Wisp), or perhaps Smythe and his Slayers.

Well this blows. I’m sure Maguire feels the same way as Raimi does about him, if ones not doing it, then the other isn’t either. But also Raimi was having problems getting them to let him do the Hobbit a few weeks ago weeks ago. And he said he too was still intested in doing more Spider-Man, if Toby was in too. Maybe he just ment on down the line, or meaning he would if he didn’t get the Hobbit gig?

But ya, with you 100% on this Doug and couldn’t of said it better myself. This is excellent news. I was hopping for the longest time that Maguire leaving was just a rumor. And Kirsten Dunst even said if he did say that, she was sure he was just screwing around with the fans.
I wish people would stop spreading stupid rumors. But ofcorse then they’d have to go find lives and who wants that?
I hope Lizard will be the next villain. He’s just awesome and almost as scary as Venom. Dylan Baker, the actor who plays Dr. Curt Connors (Lizard) actualy has a bigger role in part 3. Also there was new about a month or so back that he and Sam Raimi were in talks about expanding his character more. One could only wonder. ;)
I definitly want more Spiderman films, but I’m not as attached to Maguire as you are Doug.
I also wanted Jake Gyllenhaal as Spidey from the beggining like 1138.
It’s not even dependant on whether or not Raimi comes back.
I’m actually ready for a new take on Spiderman. Raimi has been great, dont get me wrong, but someone else’s take might be even better. I’m just ready for something new. Visually, preformance wise, and just overall tone.
Again, Raimi has made some excellent film. I’m not knocking what he’s accomplised in any way, I’m just saying that some new blood might bring something better to the table.

He did an Ok job, and like I said, I’ve loved the movies, but his take on Peter Parker never fully gelled with me. I activly want someone new in the role, so if he doesnt come back I wont be disappointed.

wait, John, didn’t you say before that you didn’t necessarily care if he left, because who knows, maybe someone else would be even better (kind of like you said if someone else directed The Hobbit besides Jackson)? Now, all of a sudden, you say it HAS to be Tobey. Come on now, John, make up your mind, bucko. :)

I think that’s a key indicator that it won’t happen. There’s a lot of room for people to move onto other things, and after 3, isn’t it hard to get everyone (especially as fame grows) back together for another successful instalment? I’d love to see a forth, but I doubt it’ll be with the same people responsible for the first three (Raimi, Maguire, Dunst, etc).
I hope to god that spidey four comes out. I wanna see Spider-Man team up with a villain [ maybe venom but that is likely impossible seen as how the direction of the movie makes it seem like a truce between Peter and Eddie is all but impossible] and take on Carnage. He is supposed to be stronger than Spidey and Venom combined. My friend said Venom could teleport, i dont beleive him butif he could thatwould be an interesting thing to add to the movie.
Although to see Spidey take on Quentin Beck would be tantalizing. Scorpion is another good one!!
I like Tobey and think he is a fine actor, but I would have liked to have seen Jake Gyllenhal’s take on it. In fact he was my first pick to star in Spidey when I saw him in Donnie Darko.
But Tobey is fine…but if he doesn’t take it let it got to Jake!
I had been thinking that, now that Doc Ock and the Goblins and Venom have all been DONE, that Spidey’s Rogues Gallery just didn’t have anymore first-rate baddies to support another movie. (Let’s be honest, from the Goblins to Doc Ock was an UPGRADE, and from Doc Ock to Venom was another UPGRADE, but how can you make Spidey 4 not a downgrade?) However, I did not think about Mysterio or the Lizard, both of whom are almost first-rate (imo). And I assume that there will still be something left to get out of Venom after Spidey 3 (whether that means a return of Venom, or a ‘mutation’ into Carnage).
So a Spidey 4 with Lizard, Mysterio, and whatever’s left of Venom would be GREAT. And since the movie will assuredly be over 2 hours long, I see no reason why they can’t do three villains, especially if one of them (Mysterio) is just there for one episode of a fight (which is probably how Sandman will be used in Spidey 3).
I had a feeling that he’d be back for another if they decide to go that route. He’s always going to be known for this character and is making millions by doing so too…..to walk away from that role would be foolish. It’s no doubt one of the best (if not thee best) movie francises of all time, and one of the biggest cash makers too.
My hope for the 4th is that they have him battling Lizard, and then maybe at some point start introducing a few others…possibly Kraven, Mysterio, Rhino, etc…so that they can build up a plot for a 5th movie dealing with the SINISTER SIX!!!
I hope he takes on Lizard, Kraven and Scropion.
If they got Bruce Campbell as Mysterio I would streak in excitment.
