Gary Oldman in The Backwoods

Oldman93.jpgI love Gary Oldman. The guy is just pure money in everything he’s in. He was the only good thing about Dracula, he totally stole the show in Fifth Element, oh man why list them all… the guy just rules.

One of the things I really respect about Oldman is the diversity in characters that he plays. He does drama, comedies, Sci-Fi and even a bunch of voice work in video games. THe dude is even getting set to be in a Spanish film called The Backwoods. Now that’s diversity. The good folks over at Empire give us this:

It’ll be a mixed language film (in Spanish and English), and also stars Virginie Ledoyen, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, and the Empire award winning Paddy Considine. The man in charge behind the scenes is debutant director Koldo Serra, and it’s being produced by Barcelona based company Filmax.

The premise follows two English tourists – a couple – on holiday in a friend’s house in a Basque village, who discover a girl in a cabin in said Backwoods, who has deformed hands.

It sorta sounds a little bit like Jodie Foster’s 1994 project “Nell“, but we’ll have to wait and see as more details come out. So keep an eye open for The Backwoods news… just cause Oldman is in it. And oh yeah… he’s got that little Harry Potter film coming out soon too.

  1. Hi John:

I already read an interview with Koldo Serra. He said The Backwoods has two main references, Deliverance and Straw Dogs. It will be a very violent movie. The girl with deformed hands in the cabin, I suspect, has a pretty interesting background story.

    Salud!

  2. What the hell are you talking about, they were the couple of many original and fun elements of that movie. Chris Tucker made me laugh, and you have to love the dorky villian Oldman played. Nothing was wrong with that movie.

Bigwig, I know everyone has their own opinons but holy moly, you are tastless when it comes to whats good and whats fun in movies. Saying Chris Tucker and Gary Oldman were the worst parts of The Fifth Element is like saying cheese and pepperoni are the worst parts of a pizza, and everything about a pizza is good, like the Fifth Element, it’s just all good. Pizza’s can have whatever you like on it, but what is in a movie is what you get, take it or leave, no complaints.

The no complaints part only works for The Fifth Element though. And if you like nothing on your pizza, and like to through a couple of anchoives onto saucy dough, then you don’t have good tastes thus making you tasteless. Maybe you haven’t seen the movie in a while, beacuse there is no way you can feel that way, unless you are tasteless my friend.
