Baz Luhrmann’s Alexander epic is back on

BazLuhrmann.jpgThis is great news, Baz Luhrmann is back on with his epic tale of Alexander, not only that it is to star the cast first on board for the project before it was put on hold. That’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Nicole Kidman. The Guardian have the story:

Screen Daily reports that Luhrmann and Hannibal producer Dino De Laurentiis are to go ahead with plans to shoot the blockbuster, starring the original cast announced in 2003

De Laurentis himself speaks:

We will shoot the film in one year’s time and it will be the Alexander that everyone has been waiting for,” De Laurentiis told an Italian newspaper, Il Corriere della Sera.

“I don’t want to knock Oliver Stone, who merits respect. But his picture was certainly flawed, and was missing the spine of a screenplay,” added De Laurentiis. “Epic films are difficult to do well. King Arthur was also flawed.”

Luhrmann has an excellent imagination for scripts and story, and an excellent eye for pulling off the most stunning and entertaining visuals. I could see this Alexander making it much better than the Stone version. Luhrmann’s vision of this Greek conqueror will be an excellent wait.
