BAFTA nominations announced

BAFTA.jpgThe BAFTA’s are the awards given by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and are highly respected. They themselves say:

The British Academy of Film & Television Arts is the UK’s leading organisation promoting and rewarding the best in film, television and interactive media. Renowned for its high- profile Award ceremonies covering Film, Television, Children’s and Interactive Entertainment the Academy does much more than this…

If you want to see all the nominations, then visit the BAFTA site for their press release. A rundown for the more hefty nominations are shown at the end of the article.

It’s also interesting to note that BAFTA now recognise Interactive and Game media as well, and you can see the nominations for these also at their site. Again, the hot spots are listed below. Yes I know strictly not movies, but some of these games are close, anyway we’ll see most of these top contenders as movies in the next few years!

Okay, well done you. You’ve made it this far. So what? Well tell us which ones you feel strongly about and what you think deserves to win or lose. If there are enough votes we might just put them up alongside the actual winners when they are announced, and gauge what you guys really think compared to the experts…ahem (that was sarcasm!).

  1. Monster wasn’t eligible last year. It was released in April 2004 in U.K. I’m not 100% positive as to why; maybe a film to be eligible has to be releasd in U.K., or maybe just shown to the voting members, before the ballots for the BAFTAs nominations are closed. Anyway Charlize, this year, is also nominated for Actress of the Year, for Monster, at the London Film Critics’ Circle.
Million Dollar Baby isn’t eligible this year, but will be next year, probably for the same exact reason.

  3. And Closer only just open there this month. But Clive and Natalie are getting Best Supportive Actor. I am happy they got the GG yesterday. It was a good movie and they were both great in it. I wish them well both at BAFTA and Oscars.
    Donna A.

  4. Why is Charlize Theron nominated for the BAFTA this year? Wasnt the film “Monster” released in 2003? There must be some mistake somewhere. That nomination could have been given to Hilary Swank.

Oh and Zhang Ziyi for Best Actress?
