The events of the movie are loosely based on the life of Frank Rosenthal who oversaw the Stardust, Fremont, and Hacienda casinos for the Chicago Mob through the 70’s and early 80’s. the film also reunites De Niro and Scorsese with Joe Pesci from Goodfellas.
