Aronofsky is offered Wolverine 2

Darren Aronofsky seemed an odd fit as a potential director for Superman, but it must have got someone thinking. Because now that he is out of consideration there, Marvel has offered him the job to direct Wolverine 2

Worst Previews says:

According to producer Lauren Shuller Donner, the sequel “will really focus on the relationship between Wolverine and Mariko, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord, and what happens to him in Japan. Mariko’s father has this stick-like weapon, so Wolverine will have to fight against that. There will be samurai, ninja, katana blades, different forms of martial arts – mano-a-mano, extreme fighting.”

The sequel is written by Chris McQuarrie who did Valkarie and The Usual Suspects, so I am expecting more from the story than the first Wolverine film, and dealing with the crime family in Japan distances him from anything that happened in the first movie.

It also means we are likely to see Silver Samurai. We better!

What do you think of Aronofsky doing Wolverine… or any superhero film for that matter?

  1. Aronofsky for Wolverine is something the franchise need I think, considering how awful the first one was. Of course a R-Rated Wolverine would be best but with Fox that will never happen. I’m not asking for decapitations every two seconds but the fights would be much more visceral and intense than with a PG-13 rating.
Silver Samurai, yes, that’d be an insane one on one fight and I want to see Wolverine VS a dozen HAND Mystical Ninjas also.
I wonder if the movie will jump between present and past time or if it will only be set in Japan?

  2. If Wolverine 2 turns out to be a great movie I’m gonna be so pissed!!!
After selling off two copys (Birthday gifts) of the pile of crap that was X-men origins: Wolverine it would be annoying to say the least.

I can handle the first movie being good and the second bad (At least I can deny the second exists). However what the hell am I to do in the reverse scenario. Guess I’ll just have to pass on the second and push them both to the back of my mind. Still it’s going to be hard when I’ve got a friend who loves all things X-men related!!! Ahhh!

    1. Sounds like you are going out of your way to not like this.

If they do a better movie for the second, it doesnt mean you automatically have to like the first or go re-buy it. If you dislike the first movie so much, just ignore it.

And if your friend likes it, good for him. That shouldn’t affect how you feel about it, and you shouldn’t skip the next movie if you are hearing good things about it.

We all go to movies we like or dislike. You won’t know until you watch it.
