Weird Al Yankovic to Return to Feature Film?

Weird Al Yankovic was hard at work on a screenplay for Cartoon Network to turn into a live action feature film when Cartoon Network decided they didnt want to do live action feature films. Who would have thought that a network for cartoons would be so shy about live action.

Anyways, it seems that isn’t getting our flexible friend down. Weird Al is now the proud owner of that script and is shopping it around in hopes that his feature film gets made somewhere else!

ScreenJunkies quotes Mr Yankovic

As I had previously reported, after years of negotiation, I was able to sign a major production deal with Cartoon Network to provide content for them. They were primarily interested in live action features, so I pitched them on a movie idea. They loved it, and gave me the go-ahead to start working on the screenplay. I worked closely with them for several months, and after submitting my 4th draft, just when I was just about to get the official green light… Cartoon Network let me know that they were no longer in the feature film business.

…it’s not entirely bad news – the script went into turnaround, which means I’m free to sell it somewhere else. (Come to think of it, that was pretty much the exact thing that happened when I was trying to get UHF made.) So maybe it’ll get produced at some point, maybe it won’t… all I know is, I’ll have a lot more free time this fall.

UHF is a classic and filled with such silliness and wonder that I require everyone I know to see this film.

His zany antics may not be your cup of tea, but I don’t care. You are watching it. And Star Wars.

Anyways, as a massive Weird Al fan I cannot wait to see what this comic genius has come up with now.

Hopefully someone will pick up his script and let him make his movie. Hell, they let those guys from Jackass make a film…

      1. Cartoon Network announced last year that their aim was to do more live action shows, go figure. This was announced around the time SyFy changed it’s name.
