Darth Vader Banned From Star Wars Parties

Had to run this story by you guys. Personally, I think this is both hilarious and just plain weird. Every big Star Wars fan knows that this year is C5. I believe it’s in August actually. In these celebrations, fans get the opportunity of meeting and getting autographs by the actors who played famous characters in these films. We’ll apparently the guy who played Darth Vader is banned for life…

Moviefone reports:

Dave Prowse, who wore the Darth Vader costume in the first three ‘Star Wars’ films, has been banned from the forthcoming Lucas Film Star Wars Celebration party in Orlando, Florida. Not only that, he’s been told his presence won’t be welcome at any Lucas Film/Star Wars-related events.

As Prowse announced on his website: “It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have ‘burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself’ — no other reason given …”

Hmmm. There could be a reason, though, seeing as Uncle George is probably fuming at the comments Prowse recently made to SlashFilm about not receiving any residual payment for ‘Return of the Jedi’ — because it didn’t make a profit(!): “I get these occasional letters from Lucasfilm saying that we regret to inform you that as Return of the Jedi has never gone into profit, we’ve got nothing to send you. Now here we’re talking about one of the biggest releases of all time …”

I’m a huge Star Wars fan. A couple of years back, I went to one of these celebrations and I met Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Ray Park (Darth Maul). These celebrations are full of awesomeness. So it’s sad to know that for this year’s C5 and for future celebrations like this one, David Prowse, will be missing.

I know he had personal reasons to apparently burn all those bridges. But doing so, gets you to this point. He’s banned.

What do you guys think?

  1. I’m finding it really hard to believe that Return of the Jedi, after 27 years, has still not turned a profit. The first three to five years maybe but 27? It sucks he’s been banned but if he was banned for speaking out on not being paid proper on RotJ then I have to side with him on this.

  2. first of all, how can Return of the Jedi didn’t make profit at all? It’s the conclusion of SW trilogy. That beyond me. Even if they didn’t made any money from initial theatrical release. How about from video, dvd, the 90s theatrical rerelease? I smell something fishy here… Anyway, i’m not that big SW fan…. i love their games thought….

  3. Can’t wait till the MMO but fans take this way to serious.Burn as many bridges as you want IMO because the people behind the super secret groovey star wars circle tend to douche bag it up like the jocks did to to P.E. Life is life and if you can’t move on then you’re playing at a shitty pace.
