Secret Diary of a Call Girl Feature Film?

The BBC TV series Secret Diary of a Call Girl is in the early stages of being adapted to a big screen movie.

EmpireOnline reports:

‘Belle De Jour’ (named after the 1967 Catherine Deneuve film, and later revealed to be academic scientist Brooke Magnanti) is about a university-educated professional struggling to make ends meet (fnar) in London, and resorting to the life of a high-class escort to earn a bit of extra location allowance. Cue much “romping”. Piper is currently filming its fourth series, beyond which, she says, “I’m not sure it has legs, so we’re trying to develop a movie.”

I just love this show. And reading the article it sounds like a movie adaptation would replace Belle with more of a Sex and the City type, as well as transplant Belle to New York City. Not at all interested in that.

Billie Piper gives life to this show as much as the heart of this show. Belle is not “perfect sexy” but Piper takes a show about a prostitute and makes it fun and intelligent. She is freaking hot and so appealing to see in various sexy outfits but this show has heart and personality. Belle often breaks the fourth wall and addresses the audience in sharing her thoughts, often in mixed company (or during sex) and it adds so much to the charm of the show.

I worry that making a movie out of this without all the idiocyncracies of the show will just make it another Sex and the City film full of vapid sensationalism.

Bell de Jour is so much more than that.
