Daniel Benmayor to Direct Hitman 2

Hitman fell into that expected category of video game movies that don’t live up to the game they are based on. But it did make money, which in Hollywood means it deserves a sequel. And Hitman 2 may not yet have secured a star, but it has a director – Daniel Benmayor

JoBlo says:

I haven’t heard the original HITMAN described by many people as anything other than a disappointment, but plans are moving ahead for a sequel (the first made $100M on a $30M budget), which has just landed a director in the form of Spaniard Daniel Benmayor.

I too was not at all impressed with Hitman, and while I am a big fan of Olyphant, I just didnt buy him in the role.

Not that he can’t kick ass. The Crazies proved he can play a leading man with a presence, and he throws around a lot of sass in films like The Girl Next Door where he plays the badass porn producer. He is awesome.

Hitman? Not awesome.

So we will have to wait and see if Olyphant returns to the role. Sadly, if he does I will have to see if a new director changes the character enough for me to like him in the role.

  1. I was 50/50 on his role in Hitman. I just felt he or the movie was missing something. I am a fan of Olyphant as well and would be willing to give another chance.

Maybe Olyphant will shine this time around.

  2. “he throws around a lot of sass in films like The Girl Next Door where he plays the badass porn producer. He is awesome”

I didn’t mind him as the bad guy in Live Free or Die Hard, but to each his own, Rodney. I wouldn’t call his character in Girl Next Door a badass. Sleazeball, maybe but not a badass. DO NOT get me started on Catch & Release….

  3. Already I have a bad feeling this isn’t going to go to well. I checked out the director’s filmography. He only directed one movie and it didn’t do too well. Not comforting. Then again, it might just be a bad start. James Cameron’s first gig directing was Piranha 2 and he made Terminator right after it. Regardless, my hopes are less then high.

    1. While technically it was his first directing job, James Cameron had very little to do with Pirhana II The Spawning; the producers used his name for insurance purposes, then fired him in the first few days of production.
