Heavy Metal Movie Back On Again?

During the Oscars one thing I commented on was how Short films were all things that we just have no venue to enjoy. Sure we could see them online, but we wont.

Now if we had ensemble films that collected stories of a similar types into a series of films. Well that would be something like Heavy Metal. Now it looks like the film they keep teasing us (then forgetting) with might be back to teasing.

io9.com says:

One of the beneficiaries of Avatar’s success could be the on-again, off-again Heavy Metal movie. Now there’s talk it may be reborn as an all-3D, all-animated anthology with contributions from Avatar’s James Cameron, Watchmen’s Zack Snyder and David Fincher.

I would LOVE to see a collection of mini stories like the first Heavy Metal movie.

Each of those stories were separate, reflecting the popular magazine’s collection of illustrated stories. The second Heavy Metal film focused entirely on one story, which could easily have appeared in the book, but what made the first film work is how the narration tied all of them together.

I’d like to see them gather these guys together for little mini stories of their own design, and presented in a series of shorts.

I hope this comes together.

  1. Ya the anthology or first Heavy Metal movie was more interesting, but it also was comprised of, what, five different tales. If you didn’t like one the next one might be more appealing. I think the icing on the metal cake was the soundtrack. Heavy Metal movie, heavy metal music..and good heavy metal music. All in all an amazing piece of work. Ya, I hope the new “metal” is an anthology of 6 or 7 mini sequences as well.

  2. Another Heavy Metal anthology would be wicked. So many good stories that they can use (I would be happy if they did a different HM anthology film every year or two, given the depth of material).

Until then, though, I will just settle for the original, as well as the epic South Park episode.

“Dude, Kenny is cheezing out of his fu@king mind!”

  3. I didn’t even know it dyed out for a while. Just thought they’d been working on it all this time since the last news I heard on it about a year ago.

I’ve been waiting on more Heavy Metal for so long now. F.A.K.K. 2 was pretty awful. I have the F.A.K.K. 2 comic book and it’s actually allot better then the movie was. With the movie, it just seemed like they got way too lazy with the animation and were also too scared to take as many risks as the comic book had. Which was weird.

That being said, I so want this new idea to happen, because with these guys behind it I’m pretty sure it’ll turn out just amazing.

Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best. ;)
