Cowboys and Aliens is a very strange comic book that pits well… Cowboys versus Aliens. Its an alien invasion right in the middle of the wild western frontier which promises to shake up the spaghetti western genre.
And it looks like this thrill ride might start filming this summer.. possibly in 3D!
Robert Downey Jr. has been attached to the project for a while along with Iron Man director, Jon Favreau, making it look more and more likely that RDJ would definitely sign.
The last we heard, Orci and Kurtzman were working on the script, going back and watching old Westerns to analyze them. We learn today from Kim Masters in a post at The Daily Beast that Cowboy and Aliens will start shooting this July, possibly in 3D.
If this does film this summer, this could be the second RDJ/Favreau film to come out in 2011. I doubt it would have its post production done to release it close to Iron Man’s summer launch, but it could very well be a Holiday ’11 release.
I’ve had my eye on this for a while. Its looking good so far!
