Kevin McKidd talks Modern Warfare and Rome

Kevin McKidd is a hidden talent that I am surprised hasn’t blown up into Sam Worthington proportions. But his role on Grey’s Anatomy might have the ladies swooning, but its his physical presence that gives him an air of leadership and intimidation on screen. Even his voice carries presence, which made his character on the Call of Duty game franchise that much more impressive.

Kevin McKidd mentioned would entertain the notion of stepping up that role in a feature film based on the franchise. And considering the $310 million the game raked in on the day of its release would qualify it for one of those titles that could make the leap to the big screen.

DarkHorizons shares:

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star, who voices the Captain “Soap” McTavish character in both the ‘Modern Warfare’ entries in the series, adds that he’d definitely consider tackling his character in the flesh – “if the script is good, and Gerard [Butler] isn’t available, then absolutely.”

The talk is purely McKidd trying to position himself for the role should the flim get made. Personally I would love to see Kevin McKidd and Gerard Butler in some action flick. I think McKidd could kick his sparta and I don’t think he should sell himself short. Lucius Vorenus can kick King Leonidas ass any day.

I have a kneejerk reaction that a movie based on a video game is automatically fraught with obsticles, but adapting Modern Warfare is really just a modern realistic military flick. And I could deal with McKidd in a role as a military officer.

Not all video games suck, just most of them happen to turn out that way. This however would be one of those cases where they would be adapting an unrelated script about a modern military engagement and attaching it to the insane popularity of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare franchise.

Also, McKidd’s role in HBO’s Rome was legendary. And speaking of which, while Kevin was spewing in his modesty he did let mention there is a script being shown about to make the series into a feature film. I’d sooner see that.

  1. Mr. McKidd is a true talent. ( The only reason I watched “Journeyman”)I refuse to watch that Grey show even with Mr. McKidd……It does prove his range and he belongs on the big screen. I thought there was a part for him in Thor, but we can always hold out for Cap!

  2. Call of Duty is pointless as a movie. It’s just going to end up as another generic war film. The game is great because it’s YOU playing in the war. The movie removes that. Besides, the story in the games is nothing really special in the film world anyway.

    1. generic war flick? i laugh at your comment ….i mean i can name like 10 war flicks that were so fucking epic that it makes your comment look like shit on the floor in the 3rd grade playground area!
he was awesome as veronus and his voice is great!

i agree greys anatomy is a joke…but thats what u get when u watching network tv brah.

      1. Strong arguments…

Basically, you could slap the title of Call of Duty on Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down. Hell, anything!

Call of Duty gains significant praise as a game because you’re IN the war, playing the character. As a movie, there’s nothing special about it. In fact, it becomes quite generic.

    1. In general yes, Video Games movies do suck more than a hoover vac. But I think there have been some exceptions where they were ok but not great. I think Mortal Kombat (the first one) was actually done quite well and even Tomb Raider was tolerable, I even enjoyed Resident Evil. Bur for the most part movies like Super Mario Bros, Double Dragon, BloodRayne, Street Fighter (Curse you Van Damme!), House of the Dead 1 and 2 (WHY?), Far Cry, Silent Hill, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale can be classifed as CRAP.
But like a true fanboy, I have hope that the next movie will hopefully rock. There must always be hope in order for fanboy to survive.

      1. I wouldn’t really consider Pokemon to be a video game movie since the anime is originally based off the trading card game. Then they did create video games and such for it. The same could be said for anime movies like Digimon, and Yugi Oh (Don’t ask me why I know these things). But I did forget to put in their films such as Dead or Alive, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Wing Commander, Doom (actually that one I did enjoy), Alone in the Dark, Hitman, Max Payne, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, and I know it hasn’t come out yet but I have a little faith that it might be good is Prince of Persia.

      2. Pokemon is a Card Game first and foremost. After that it spun off into films based on a TV show that also had video games made around it.

Calling Pokemon a video game movie is like saying Iron Man is a video game movie because they made a video game of it.

      3. Actually pokemon was a videogame first as it was owned by nintendo, the card games and the tv show spun out of the popularity of the game. in the u.s. it might have been that u saw the cards as the popular medium but in japan it was the game that got it all started. the first was pokemon red and green if not mistaken in japan, in states it was blue n red.

  3. I’m a big fan of Kevin McKidd… but I just don’t like Grey’s Anatomy. You can take a great actor and put him in a bad movie/tv show and it’ll still be a bad. So as much as I like McKidd, if they can’t make a good story out of the game, the movie will still fail.
