Bryan Singer wants to do more X-Men

There has been a lot of faith lost in the X-Men franchise with the last two showings on a decline from its glorious beginings. But with all the planned X-Films in the works, some are jumping to the narrow conclusion that they cannot be good. Oh how quickly we forget.

But a glimmer of hope shows on the horizon as Bryan Singer admits he has been talking to Fox about returning to the fold.

Get the Big Picture says:

Bryan Singer says he’d like to direct another X-Men movie, and I can’t see any reason why that wouldn’t happen. The Hollywood Reporter quotes Singer at the Pusan International Film Festival is South Korea as saying, “I’m still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it.”

This makes perfect sense and I look forward to seeing Singer doing more in the X-Universe.

Around these parts we call Singer the Saviour of the Superhero genre after Joel Schumaker bent Batman over and ass raped him with some neon lighting. Hollywood wouldn’t go near a comic book adaptation for close to 6 years before Singer boldly brought us X-Men. Then the floodgate was open and it almost seems like half of Hollywood is leaping off the comicbook page.

I think Singer needs to step back into the X-Films. People were less happy about X-Men 3: The Last Stand and that was the first X without Singer. Then Wolverine was so riddled with problems.

Maybe its time for the saviour to return. But which of the planned X-Films should he take? X-Men 4? First Class? Wolverine 2? Deadpool? or let him have something new like New Mutants or Power Pack?

  1. He should do X-Men 4 and find a way to bring some dead characters back to life, like Cyclops. Oh and I saw X-Men a long time ago, did toad died at the end of it, I don’t remember.

  2. I don’t see him taking Magneto for two basic reasons:

    1. It already has a director at this time (Goyer)

    2. In this interview, Singer said he would NOT be interested due to the fact that he’s done enough films with WWII/Nazi Germany themes in them.

While I hope he goes for X-Men 4, and has a film that continues on after Last Stand, I think there is more of a chance he wil look into Wolverine II which would not only re-unite him with Hugh Jackman, but also his Usual Suspects scribe Christopher McQuarrie.

  3. Yes, what a shocking story. Bryan Singer leaves the X franchise to direct Superman Returns, which for all intents and purposes, fails. Then he follows that up with Valkyrie, which similarly underperformed. Now he wants to return to the X franchise, which in its last outing, The Last Stand, made almost as much as Singer’s last two films combined.

  4. Does anyone remember that Blade led the way for the comic movie revival? I’m not disrespecting X-Men or anything. Just saying give credit where credit is due.

    1. The credit is not due since most of the general audience didn’t know that Blade was a comic book and figured it was just an action vampire flick.

In fact it was the lack of comic book recognition that contributed to the film getting a green light.

      1. I have to agree with Rodney. On top of that, Blade didn’t even HAVE his own ‘headline’ comic. He was a supporting character in ‘Tomb Of Dracula’. The films actually popularized the character.

X-Men (and Spider-Man two years later) burst open the floodgates.

      2. I think i tried to say this before but Hollywood did Spawn after the Batman movies.

That movie didn’t revive anything but it didn’t take 6 6 for Hollywood to make a comic book movie after Batman and Robin.

      3. Even One Hit Wonders release another song, doesn’t mean it will be accepted on the market.

Spawn cost $40million to make and pulled in $54. After promotion they would be lucky if that broke even. Wouldn’t say it was a bomb, but hardly a success.

  5. Does Blade get no credit?

Somewhere I read someone saying how they should bring Cable into the next X-Men movie. And that he should come back from the future to the time right after X2 and completely negate the events of X3.

Right off the bat I can think of a few flaws with this story but it would be hilarious if they went that route.

    1. Blade was a complete unknown supporting cast character before he got his own film. It was not marketed as a comic book movie and the character didn’t even have his own title until after the movie.

Its more accurate to say that the movie was credit for getting Blade his own book, but it wasn’t a “comic book movie” like Hollywood was already shaking its head at. Remember, Superman was still struggling in limbo at that point too.

  6. Singer’s return doesn’t guarantee any success. I’ve been quite disappointed with his post-X-Men career and haven’t been impressed with anything he’s directed since.

But, if they do make another X-Men film, PLEASE remember that the X-Men are a TEAM. I don’t want to see Wolverine 4 (5, technically), I want to see the X-Men!

    1. And remember, X-MEN 3 and Superman Returns where like in deep competition, they where going toe to toe because their release dates where so close, and X-Men wanted to change its date in order to be released before Superman, but ended up rushing the movie

X-Men 3 ended up making more money too(they where both successful though)
