Cronenberg to Remake his own Remake – The Fly!

The version of The Fly that I recognize the most of course is the Cronenberg 1986 film staring Gena Davis and Jeff Goldblum. Of course that film was a remake and a quite successful one at that.

So when I heard they were remaking it again I was wary until I heard that Cronenberg himself was going to head the remake!

Cinematical shares:

Although he said he’d never return to the world of The Fly, The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Biz Blog reports that David Cronenberg is going to develop a reboot with Fox, direct it and probably write it as well. Yes, dear readers, Cronenberg is returning to The Fly.

The 1986 version seems to stick out for me as one vivid scene where Jeff Goldblum was keeping his parts (that were falling off him during the transformation to a fly) in little jars. There is a distinct part that appears in the cabinet that wasn’t a finger.

That solidified the horror he was experiencing for me.

But the 1986 remake was a great film, and its been a long time, so why not remake it again.

  1. Did Hitchcock ever do this? I know he remade a couple of his movies but were any remakes of a remake?

Personally I don’t see the point of this they should just re-release it….oh right I’ve already brought this up before.

  2. Wow,this is awesome. The 86′ version of the Fly is one of my all time fav horror flicks. With Cronenberg fully behind is again and today’s effects, it could turn out even so much more scary and creepy then the original. Which it was already pretty out there.

I can see it being amazing and another true horror classic. Which are very few and far between these days. As long as he does stick to the style, feel, and twistedness of the original, and makes you genially feel for the main character as he goes threw the transformation, as well as him being horrifying to look upon, it will be truly awesome.

  3. I really loved the 1986 version of The Fly. I’m not sure if I really want to see a remake of it… but I’ll still go see it if they do remake it. I don’t know what it is about the story, but I love it.
