Mystery Team Trailer Online

I find myself unable NOT to post this trailer for Derrick Comedy’s feature Mystery Team. Mostly because I am wondering just what everyone else sees in this that I don’t. I am confused. I am lost in the mall. I want my mommy.

Trailer Addict says:

A second trailer for Mystery Team. Internet sensations DERRICK Comedy make the leap from your browser window to the big screen this fall in the hilariously inappropriate Mystery Team. The comedy hit of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Mystery Team follows a trio of ridiculously infantile detectives as they attempt to solve the biggest case of their careers.

Now normally Film Festivals like Sundance and Cannes put out some inspiring films, and the cream of the crop (which means marketable to Hollywood) get picked up for distribution deals. And the “hype talk” I am seeing everywhere is how the “internet sensation” Derrick Comedy has put together their sketch talents to showcase a feature film.

Is it me, or is this completely unfunny? I never found their sketch bits online to be at all funny. Now low production values can be overcome if the bits are really funny, but I can’t even forgive them for that. And that they managed to get a feature film approved for Sundance and is getting “raves” about it? And someone willingly got behind it to distribute?

Who lost what game of poker with some scientoligists to make this happen?

I don’t know. Maybe it just doesn’t appeal to me, but does anyone look at this and think it will be worth the trip to the video store?

  1. agreed, the first trailer is way funnier and R rated. Also, It might be “low budget” but the trailer didn’t really come off that way. It isn’t like the trailer had glaring errors. In fact, it was well shot.

  2. Looks pretty stupid. Couple funny lines, but nothing beyond a small chuckle in my head. Hard to believe anyone would want to produce this at all.

I’ve seen better stuff on YouTube…

  3. Everyone seems to be passing a lot of judgement based on the TRAILER. Watch the movie, then talk to me.

But either way, a lot can be said about “hype” at Sundance. Look at Garden State. Probably one of the most overrated movies of that year.

    1. News flash: Humor is subjective. Garden State is one of my favorite movies of all time. You don’t get Zach Braff and the rest of us don’t get Mystery Team. I also can’t stand Two and a Half Men, King of Queens, or Dane Cook, all of which apparently are hugely popular with a lot of people I’ve never met… to each his own I guess.

  4. The first trailer was a lot funnier, but I still like the 2nd one. It looks like a lot of silly fun, but it would definitely be a DVD rental for me.

    1. Remember though, Super Troopers ruled, and that was made by a sketch comedy group (Broken Lizard). Personally, I think it looks great. Then again, I’m a huge Derrick fan, so maybe I’m biased. But I’m certainly checking this out.

    2. I havent seen Miss March, but in my house we own every movie known to mankind so ill ask my stepbrother if we have it.

Ive never even heard of Miss March…hmm…gotta check it out

  5. @ Who lost what game of poker with some scientoligists to make this happen?

what does scientology have to do with anything?

Anyway, it’s just a low budget film they self produced. I don’t see the problem. I would immensely prefer more of this to more Dance Movie’s and Paul Blarts.

These days it’s harder and harder for independent films to find their audience. I wish them the best of luck.

  6. What this looks like is an low budget online sketch stretched over an hour and a half. This would work in short 1-5 min segments but any longer is too much.

  7. Rodney,

I find their online stuff hilarious. Some of it is just silly, some of it is pretty smart.

The movie looks so-so (you have to watch the other trailer as well). But I have high hopes for these guys.

Also it is in the brand of anti-humor, so you have to be keen to that genre to be a fan of it.

    1. It is a a pretty significant genre but only on the internet. Have you guys heard of the sketch site Channel 101? That is a big anti-humor website.

Tim and Eric Awesome Show on adult swim.

Basically anything that is so terrible and awkward it goes back to being funny.

Listen I am not the biggest fan of it either, but it does work for some people.

    2. ok, i actually enjoy tim and eric at times…didnt know awkward humor had a name tho, just thought it is oddball humor
