Final Destination 4 Brings Back FD 2 Director

The first Final Destination film was an interesting idea. Not a great film, but I can completely understand why they made it. The second one (some thought was better) was unnecessary… the third one was just killed time (no pun intended). We heard a while ago that there were plans in motion to do a Final Destination 4, but things got quiet after that. Well… it looks like things are indeed moving forward with word that Final Destination 2 director David Ellis is getting back in the chair.

The good folks over at ComingSoon give us this:

David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2) has signed to direct and develop Final Destination 4, the latest installment of New Line’s popular horror series, which the studio plans to shoot in 3-D. While plot details for “FD4” are being kept under wraps, the movie will stand alone: It will feature new teens facing new forms of death. The script was written by Eric Bress, who co-wrote Final Destination 2.

Ok ok ok… yes we get it… you can’t cheat fate, if you do, death is still gonna track you down and getcha in horrible bloody and gory ways. We got the message the first three times you laid it into us.

All I can surmise is that the studio is dusting off actual completed scripts that have been collecting dust on the shelves in light of the current writers strike.

  1. Last year a fellow named BiohazardAmigaVirus had a post on IMdb, an excellent idea for a prequel: “When i think about movie ideas, i make it a point to say it so heres an idea. Instead of the usual sequel material of unrelated characters escaping death and making references to past movies, they should make a prequel in which teenage Bludworth is the main character and they could explain how he knows so much about death and if he did have a premonition and cheat death, how he managed to escape and do what countless teens over the course of 3 movies have failed to accomplish.”

    This got me thinking. That’s such an excellent idea. And I think I figured it out.

    Everybody is dead, period – all the survivors from the three films. And yes, Kimberly and Burke are pushing up daisies too. It is in the theatrical version for a moment (same with Alex’s death mention in FD2) and in much greater detail within the “Choose Their Fate!” option.

    When Clear took Kimberly and Burke (FD2) to the funeral house to see Bludworth, she as well as the late Alex Browning were under the impression that he knew more than he was saying. I believe this is very true.

    When Kimberly begged for his help, Bludworth gave in… a little. Saying, stressing that only new life can break the chain. A life that was never suppose to be. Here’s the problem. They followed his advice and still everybody died. There has to be an explanation.

    We know that Kimberly clutched on the notion that the pregnant woman was the key. Saving her and her unborn child was the way to save themselves. It didn’t work. Reading the hospital’s bulletin board later made her revise her idea. Kill herself, get revived: a new life. It still didn’t work. Why not? Because Bludworth left something crucial out. One bit of info that save him from Death.

    Speculative – true, but do I believe I’m correct. It all makes sense.

    The pregnant woman, her unborn child and everybody who perished in the Route 180 Pileup were/are on Death’s list. All named to die, either at that horrific moment or later when Death circled back to finish off the remaining survivors months later (giving time for the survivors to be off their guard, false security).

    At some point in the past, maybe late ’60s or early ’70s, William Bludworth (in his teens) and friends escaped a major accident, premonition from… whoever in the group; perhaps his girlfriend.

    Things follow their usual course, bodies drop. But Bludworth and his girlfriend survive. I think some of you know where I’m heading here. The missing bit? Did you notice something? The lag time between death’s re-appearance is a few months. It’s not say… nine months later.

    The answer… Bludworth told Kimberly and gang the truth: only new life can break the chain. A new life, that was never meant to exit. A new life CREATED by two people who should’ve NEVER have lived.

    This new life is NOT on Death’s list. It’s an anomaly. It can not be. If it’s not on the list then what is it? An immortal??? Play some Queen here folks.

  2. FD2 was better than the first. The third one wasn’t so bad except for the ending; I actually quite enjoyed the “look at photos and guess how they’re going to die” bit. It was definitely far from an “awful pile of puking pig guts”; it’s not like the first two were Oscar material and the third was Razzies worth – the acting/story/direction were similar to the other two; it wasn’t something _radically_ different in a positive or negative way. As I said, it was slightly worse than the second, but enjoyable none the less.

  3. This series was created by Glen Morgan and James Wong who wrote/produced some of the best early X Files episodes, left to create Space: Above and Beyond, work on Millenium and others. Their X Files episodes were fantastic. Space had balls. Yet their movies have been somewhat lacking and really should have been a lot more/bigger. The potential is there. Sure would like to see these guys do something worthy of their real talents.

  4. I also liked Final 2 better than the first film. I sort of liked the third film, but not as much as the other two. The third film I felt was poorly handled.

    But wasn’t the third film pretty much ‘stand alone’ too?

    And I think they do need to add something other than the same ol’ song. That’s just me I suppose.

  5. FD2 was better than the original if I remember correctly. It had that totally killer highway accident, right? That was totally awesome, way bigger than anything I expected from a slasher movie. It’s more exciting than a plane exploding.

  6. Like you just mentioned John, we’ve had 3 films with the same ol stuff. We know the concept of the films, so I do hope they give us something new with the forth installment.

    FD1=Loved it
    FD2=Good
    FD3=Awful pile of puking pig guts
