Gambling movies are terribly exciting to me. Chance and luck are part of our every day lives, and when we gamble; we worship at their temple. Blackjack is my game of choice and I am happy to embed a You Tube video, and provide you with the following trailer for 21. Kevin Spacey and Laurence Fishburne are the anchors in the film, and it is set to be released March 28th, 2008.

kika-your last line (Had they not been seduced by greed Vegas would have lost it’s ass.) is TOTAL CRAP! How do I know? I was on the “Count Team” in Atlantic City. That is a Team of highly skilled and trained card counters who work for casinos whose job is to catch “advanced players” I have caught members of the MIT Team on several occasions in the casino I use to work for. The problem the had in Las Vegas was 2-fold. 1. They did NOT use a count team to search for counters. The relied on Pit Bosses who thought the could count-but can’t and 2. The Griffen company. they are a bunch of thugs who are more bounty hunter then card counter. So, because of arrogance and stupidity MIT was as successful as it was.
If anything, eventually, they would have been caught and banned. NO WAY would have “Vegas” would have “lost their ass”. NOBODY, repeat, NOBODY could do that severe of damage to a number of billion dollar corporations!

It is based on the Ben Mezrich book, which he has published now three times under different titles. It is also true. In the late 60’s a math professor figured out that Blackjack was unique of all games in that the results from before influenced the future results. The rub is that most cannot remember the count in a six deck shoe with the distractions of Vegas without being obvious. These guys took some young kids who were smart with still-good memories and set up teams where the player was not the counter, but rather signaled the count. Never heard of when it happened. They’d still be killing Vegas today if it weren’t for computers ironically. Digital facial recognition software identified the players and they are banned for life Even small casinos usually pick them off. There are thousand of known counters who are not allowed to play in Vegas. What’s interesting is whether this movie will inspire amatuers. Many properties have shifted to autoshufflers which should always be avoided. But the best properties know the whales require honest games. It’s a cool tale. Had they not been seduced by greed Vegas would have lost it’s ass.
Good Luck

Anybody recognize the young man who’s good with numbers. Yes, that’s right, Girl Next Door.
Holy fuck that was bad.
Glad to see he can act now.
Too bad says I. The book was great. Could have been a cool stylish film…looks a little generic to me. Incredible idea but looks like it will be far from its potential.
Reminds me of the movie The Last Casino from 2004

Kevin C – Is this by any chance based on “bringing down the house” it sounds very similar? If so, I def agree that was a kick ass book.
Hmmm not so sure if I’ll run out to see it. Depends on the reviews for me.
I read the book that I believe this movie is based on. It is an awesome story and I cant wait to see it on the big screen. Good stuff.
Cool
