Tim Burton Walks Off The Set Of Ripley’s

timburton56.jpgIt looks like that Jim Carey/Tim Burton team up I was looking forward to may never happen. We get the scoop from moviehole:

Another stumbling block for the long-gestating “Ripley’s Believe it or not!” movie with Coming Soon reporting that director Tim Burton has quit the picture.

The film stars Jim Carrey as Robert Ripley, a man who embarks on a journey through many countries; learning new things, finding new things and gathering many friends along the way. Later Ripley begins televising a special but later has many health problems to deal with. The film was originally set for a Winter 2008 start, with Burton gone it may be pushed back. Again.

I think alot of people are going to blame Tim Burton for this, claiming that he is an unstable madman. This is simply not fair, Tim Burton is an artist and from what I gather from my sources – he had a very good reason to leave this project. It appears that Tim Burton was called by the Elf king to join them in battle against the moon worshiping gnolls of the enchanted woods. As a long time ally to the elven peoples, it would not be prudent for Mr. Burton to turn his back on them in their time of need.

The situation is complicated further when we learn that Jim Carey is himself a moon worshipper, and although he has no affiliation with the Gnolls of the enchanted woods, he does relate with them on some levels because of their shared love of moon worship. This made the decision easy for Tim Burton, he could not ignore the call battle from the Elf King, nor could he stand to work with a moon worshipper another minute!

It is easy to point fingers and place blame, but what we see here are a few people caught in a 600 year old battle between elves and gnolls. I am not going to say who is right or who is wrong, I just long for the day when elves, gnolls, moonworshipers and sun worshipers can all get along and make a movie about Mr. Ripley.

  1. I love Tim Burton. If he didn’t want to do the movie, then what’s the big deal about him walking away?

And Burton’s Batman movies are diamonds compared to those Joel Shitmaker abominations.

  2. The plug has been pulled on the Carrey-Burton team up for months, Doug.

In any case, I don’t get all the hate for Burton. I’m also tired of the Burton vs, Kevin Smith crap. It’s time to let sleeping dogs lie…I’m so happy Smith’s script was shot down. His fanbase gives him so much a pass on the thing, it makes me choke. Nobody seems thankful that the McG and JJ Abrams version of Supey got made. Or Brett Ratner’s, for that matter. All I hear: “TIM BURTON IS A DOG FACED HACK!”

    Stupid Tim Burton.
    Dummmy Tim Burton.
    Asshole Asswiping Asskisser Tim Burton.
    Kevin Smith The Saint.
    Kevin Smith the hero.
    Kevin Smith the rebel.

    I miss anything?

Okay, so Jack *&^%$ Napier/Joker knocked off Bruce’s daddy in Burton’s film. (Actually, would it have been better if Napier assisted Joe Chill?) Did we or did we nt enjoy Jack Nicolson as Joker? Did we or did we not accept Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman in spite of the *&^%$ fanboy reaction of his casting, as if blind to the fact that they almost got Bill Murray if Tim Burton wasn’t there? Oops. Sorry. My bad. Shouldn’t turn up old dirt. Screw it.

I for one loved Burton’s “Planet Of The Apes” (seriously) and loved “Big Fish”. While I’m sad to be reminded that Burton walked off ‘Ripley’, despite of what comics fans nitpick today, Burton’s Bat-films were not horrible. Schumacher? That’s another story. And yes, “Begins” iwalks circles around the previous franchise.

But if Burton gives us another Corpse Bride or Nightmare Before, oh, “he’s okay”.

  3. Racism, tsk.

Oh well. It does really annoy me when direcors abandon the film, christ your getting payed billions you fuck, get it together, if the money wasn’t so big, they’d call it a difficult job, jesus Burton, Jesus.

  4. First it was hatred for Vampires (Wesley Snipes), and now it’s moon worshipers. When will the madness stop and we all just get along.

  5. i fuckin hate tim burton. but obviously the he is good at films he makes cuz some people like them, but i just dont like them at all. and my favorite thing ever is when him and Kevin Smith got in a little quarrel through two different magazine interviews.

Tim Burton: There is no way i would read Kevin Smith’s comics, if anyone knows me they know i dont read comic books.

Kevin Smith: I guess that explains Batman
