Rachel Weisz In The Lovely Bones

snakew.jpgRachel Weisz has landed herself a role in the upcoming Peter Jackson film “The Lovely Bones.” We get the news today from our friends at cinematical:

According to Variety, “Weisz will play the mother of a young girl who is abducted and is feared to have been murdered.” I presume that means she will play Abigail Salmon, the mother of Susie, the young girl who narrates the novel from heaven. For those unfamiliar with the book, it’s about the young Susie (who is raped, murdered and dismembered) in heaven, as she watches her friends and family cope with her death and go about their lives. There are no other cast for the film that DreamWorks picked up in May, but there should be more soon, as production is set to begin this October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand.

The Lovely Bones sounds like a film that will turn on the taps of emotion in powerful ways. I have not read the book, nor will I, because it is not my thing. I will see the film however, because I am a fan of Peter Jackson, I will have to talk about it on Uncut, and because I, on occasion, enjoy a good cry.

After LOTR and King Kong, Lovely Bones will be a lot more low key for Jackson. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for him. I am curious to see if he will delve back into Horror films.

  1. Yuck! I have to say that I hated this book! Heaven was described as the the most depressing place. A place you never wanted to go. I don’t think I’ll want to see this movie at all. It was one of the worst, over-hyped books that I’ve ever read

  2. I believe I speak for all of the movie blog when I ask, where can I find a larger version of that picture… and unless this movie is about Rachel weisz wrestling naked with that snake I have no interest

  3. Hey Jude,

    Naaa naaaaa naaaaa nanana naaaaaa!!!!

ok I know stupid ass joke but I couldn’t help it.

Mr. Jackson seems to be returning to much more smaller films and I think that might be a good thing. I just hope it isn’t over 3 hours long like King Kong was but I am sure he will do a good job even though his most praised films are his blockbusters and none of the small films he did before Lord of the Rings (Except for Heavenly Creatures).

  4. Thanks for bringing my attention to that wonderful photo.. and the equally wonderful news. I am mid-way through the book, because I had heard Jackson was going to adapt it and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. The book’s alright so far, a bit dull, but written well enough that I don’t want to stop reading it.

I’m excited to see what Jackson can do with it. But I hope some day he delves back into zombies.

  5. The book is fairly stupid. Having read it as a favor to someone else, I can say that I would definitely not see the movie. Of course, I’m an atheist, so why would I care about a story set partly in heaven?
