Get Smart Gets Hathaway and Carell

Now of all the cinematic remakes of 60s and 70s sitcoms and copshows go, I have never been overly excited about any of them. Until now.

One of my fondest memories as a kid was sitting with my dad on the couch watching Get Smart. I think that 99 was likely my first real tv crush. At least as early as I can remember. Now they are making a movie with Maxwell Smart being played by 40 Year Old Virgin star Steve Carell.

Quint at AICNews says:

I grew up watching GET SMART on Nick At Nite and have many fond memories of the show. I’m really curious to see what Steve Carell has in store in the film version. If anyone can fill Don Adams’ telephone-equiped shoes, it’d be him.

And now they’ve made a casting decision that sits pretty well with me. The new 99 is Ann Hathaway. She’s cute and hopefully she’ll have the spunk that made Feldon’s 99 so adorable.

Now having Hathaway as 99 just ramps up my interest. I already have a bit of a movie crush on Anne Hathaway, so combining them? Perfect.

For those who are under the age of 30, the TV Series Get Smart was the inspiration for the children’s cartoon Inspector Gadget. Don Adams was the original Maxwell Smart, and he was even the voice of Inspector Gadget. In both, Maxwell is seen as a master spy to rival James Bond, but in actuality he bumbles into situations accidentally and one way or another saves the day. I just hope they keep this movie set in the 60s.

I cant wait to see Carell in this role. Ok, really I just cant wait to see Hathaway in a groovy slinky 70s club girl outfit and gogo boots.

And Smart BETTER answer the phone in his shoe or I will be writing a big angry letter to the producers.
