Did Sandman Kill Uncle Ben?

The vast majority of us have seen the first Spider-man movie, so I’m sure I’m not giving any spoilers away here. We all know Peter found his Uncle dying on the street, and that it was believed that the guy Peter let go is the one who killed Ben. Right?

Well… in reality we never actually SAW Uncle ben get attacked. We never actually SAW what really happened to him. And that’s what makes this report from blackfilm so interesting.

Well, the producers have brought back Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben and re-created the exact scene by the library where Ben died and have placed Thomas Hayden Church, who’s playing Flint Marko aka Sandman there as well. We never did see the scene where Ben was carjacked and killed, just his body on the floor when Peter saw him.

Now, before anyone tries to discredit this idea by saying "That can’t be what’s going to happen because that’s not what happens in the comic book", just remember that Raimi has already broken with the comic a bunch of times in order to tell the best story he can while maintaining the SPIRIT of the comic.

I think having Sandman kill Uncle Ben is a very interesting possibility and would make for some wonderful internal conflict wth Peter. After all… Peter already killed the guy he THOUGHT killed Ben.

What do you think? Will this happen? If so… do you think it is a good idea or bad idea?
