James Franco joins Wizard of Oz Prequel

James Frano has worked with Sam Raimi before and will now reuinite with the Spider-Man director to play the man who would be Oz in the prequel replacing Robert Downey Jr who is no longer attached to the project.

Moviefone reports:

The Oscar-nominated actor, who will also serve as co-host of the 83rd telecast (Sunday, Feb. 27, 8:30PM on ABC), has reportedly closed a deal to star in the highly-anticipated ‘Wizard of Oz’ prequel ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful,’ based on the novel by L. Frank Baum.

Franco is on a hot streak lately with his impressive performance in 127 Hours, and lining up a goofball comedy with Your Highness and a Planet of the Apes Prequel, and now an Oz Prequel.

Busy guy.

I really enjoy Franco, so I look forward to seeing what they do with this.

  1. I was never a fan of the “Wizard of OZ”. I know its a classic beloved the world over but I just have never cared for it.

I doubt I would be interested in seeing this, maybe as a home rental just to see whats going on.

  2. I actually thought Franco was terrible in the Spidey films! (wait let me explain)
then I caught Freaks and Geeks on dvd and learned to appreciate his work, Shortly after that he got the Spidey gig I guess, But I never really believed his Harry Osbourne. Untill part 3 when he took the blade for Spidey. It was that moment (and after freaks and geeks exposure) that won me over.

He was the best part of Pineapple Express IMO and nailed the stoner part to a tee.
