Cobie Smulders leads Rumours for The Avengers

Looks like there is a battle going on for the role of Nick Fury’s second in command in The Avengers. That rumour has How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders at the top of the list.

Samuel L. Jackson revealed last week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon that his Nick Fury character would be getting a female sidekick in The Avengers. Soon after, it was revealed that Jessica Lucas, Cobie Smulders, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead were all auditioning for this unspecified character, with V’s Morena Baccarin apparently in the lead.

Today, it has been announced that How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders is now the top contender, and that Marvel Studios is close to signing the actress as Samuel L. Jackson’s sidekick.

I just love Cobie Smulders. I find she has an inexaughstable charm and really easy on the eyes as well.

Maria Hill becomes deputy director of SHIELD, and is pivotal to many story arcs involving the organization. The way the character is drawn, I think Morena Baccarin more closely represents the character, but any opportunity to see Smulders in military dress would not be one to miss.

I could live with this.

  1. Holy $@#$! I just googled Morena to see who she was, since people were talking about her, and I had NO IDEA that the alien queen from the new V was the same actress as the concubine-type character on Firefly. I’m now so much more impressed with her acting ability… those are two wildly different kinds of characters.

That said, I’d be fine with either of those actresses in pretty much any role, though I think they’re quite different. It really depends on what kind of character they want for the movie.

  2. I also think Morena Baccarin would be better suited here. Her work on V has shown that she can be a hard ass which is needed to play Maria Hill correctly. Not to mention, she already has the hair cut for it. Don’tknow much about Cobie Smulders, I ‘ve watched how I met your Mother only a handful of times so I don’t know how she’d do in the role.
