Red Skull Concept Art

Last night I showed you the first image of Hugo Weaving holding the Cosmic Cube (and thank you for explaining what it was, Rodney), now I’ll show you concept images of Red Skull in full costume which I found over at Comic Book Resources.

Looks cool and all but, isn’t he a bit sharply dressed for the 40’s? I understand the film has to be aesthetically pleasing, but that isn’t exactly period clothing. I personally don’t like it, unless it’s for modern day skull. Am I alone in that opinion?

  1. I look at it and I like it. Its not ww2, its Hyper WW2, the kind of thing you would imagine for an advanced technology 1940s setting, retro style with a high tech polish to it.

Seriously, this is fine. Great costume design for both characters.

On a side note the costume on the right reminds me of Tron…

  2. Hugo Boss, a German high-end fashion company, designed uniforms for the Nazis (i.e. SS, Hitler Youth, etc.).

The founder, Hugo Boss, was a member of the Nazi Party.

  3. Hey man, One thing you gotta give Nazis cred for : They know how to dress!

Skulls get-up shouldn’t be too hard to pull off cause the old version LOOKED PRETTY GOOD. (sKULLS LOOK not THE FILM)

    1. Random question here, but i think someone once told me nazi’s outfits were designed by some fashion guy or gal. Anyone confirm it? ( off topic but it’ll annoy me!)
Skulls a pretty iconic badguy, and with hugo behind the mask he should be fantastic. I just dont see the need for those crazy future clothes!

      1. Ian not sure about who designed their uniforms but the Nazi’s did everything for effect. They knew the importance visual aesthetics and pageantry could have on a population. Everything was done to get a certain reaction from the public. So it is quite possible that they had a designer create their uniforms. The SS had the best looking uniforms. And everytime you see someone walk unto the movie screen wearing one it’s akin to Darth Vader walking unto the Rebel ship at the beginning of Star Wars. You immediately feel dread, fear and inferior. I think the Skulls uniform looks very similar to the SS uniforms. Being that it is a Hydra uniform and they are supposed to be slightly more advanced tech wise than the Nazis who in turn were more advanced than the allies, it makes sense.

      2. Also Ian don’t forget that the artist renderings of Cap’s uniform looked futuristic and streamlined until we saw it on Chris Evans. The artist has this slick very straight lined style which really doesn’t reveal what the uniform will look like when worn. Part’s of Cap’s uniform (especially around the shoulders) actually looked like some type of armor. We later found out it was all completely fabric. The Pic of Cap you have up on this post does a good job of revealing the fabric but the Artist of the Skull piece is the same artist who did the more stylized Cap rendering of the same uniform.
