Disney to release 15 3D Bluray Titles in 2011

The inevitable evolution to 3D is taking huge leap of faith forward as home theater embraces it, the studios are starting to give them a reason to own them.

Disney is among the first to announce a huge push of 3D releases in 2011 with at least 15 of its titles to come out on 3D Bluray.

Dark Horizons Reports:

The most notable entries on the list are celebrated animated classics “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast”, current box-office hits “Tron: Legacy” and “Tangled”, and catalog including Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, G-Force and Chicken Little.

Digital Animation is the easiest to translate to 3D so it makes sense that Disney will lead the way with converting old titles while studios still cringe waiting for Post Conversion 3D techniques to improve.

I don’t even own a 3D tv, and I am eager to get my hands on these copies just to update the library and usher in the inevitable future. Of course the BluRay 3D versions will also include DVD and Digital Copies as well (my favourite way to pick up a copy of a film) that are more than capable of being watched in old fashioned outdated 2D.

Oh I know there are still dissenters out there opposed to the 3D wave, but when 3D is ultimately brought to reality where it is the standard and no one is complaining about it anymore we will talk with nostalgia about those people complaining the way we hear our grandparents talk about how sound added to film was so controversial, and how our generation scoffs at bad CG that is so lifelike and detailed now.

I am kidding. Not really. But I am. Just sayin.

  1. I think the conversion of all these films to 3d is an interesting concept. I dont find it wretched in anyway. I would love to see films like Pocahontas and Hunchback of NotreDame and so many others released in this format. As long as Disney is releasing these films in a oneshot bundle where you can see them in 3d and 2d I will remaid pleased.

Think about it, why gripe and complain when you still get to have it your way. If you dont like the conversion than dont watch it.

Mulan, Tarzan,Dinosaur, and Rescuers DownUnder would look amazing with this 3d venture. Lets hope Disney takes us on a ride that keeps us all amazed and bewildered for years to come.

  2. I still scoff at bad CGI… and even sometimes any CGI when it’s not needed. It should always be used as a tool for things when necessary, not a clutch. We need more movies like Taken and The Town, and less mindless CGI crap.

  3. Surely I will be one of those old people complaining about how we had to watch things back in 2d. How everything was so flat but true and you didn’t have to replace your eyes with biotic sensors with night and thermal vision enhancement so as to not strain yourself. I’ll even complain about we had to deal with 3g and didn’t have the luxury of 12f in our cell phones implanted in our brains..no, no…we had to either put on a bluetooth device to make us look like a complete douche or hold the phone to our ear. Yep I will be on those type of men, just wait and see. Altough optic implants with thermal and nightvision would be kick ass? Kinda like Sam Fishcer, plus I think they should make Lilo and Stitch in 3d, love that movie.

  4. I just bought a 3D set and DVD player. Granted the implementation isn’t as nice as watching a 3D movie on an IMAX screen, but it’s still pretty nice. This is great news. This news coupled with the ever increasing 3D offerings from directv and the cable networks makes me a happy man.

  5. FINALLY LION KING!
That happens to be my all time fav disney movie next to fantasia. I can’t jump on home 3D yet because the tech is gonna go through a few evolutions especially now with Apple in the mix. I am taking a wait and see approach but I am happy to know that disney always gets it right and they make all formats available to you in one shot everytime.

  6. sweet i have been waiting for some of these titles to come out not really into 3D right now ( still kinda hurts my eyes) but as long as i can watch it normally im cool with it
