Wahlberg in Uncharted Movie is Not Official

While the casting of Mark Wahlberg in the movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune seemed official, it turns out its not official at all. Doesn’t mean he won’t get it or isn’t in talks, but its not official yet.

Geeks of Doom shares:

In an interview with Joystiq, Justin Richmond, the director of the brand new installment in the video game series, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, spoke about the rumors that have been circulating about the movie.

Richmond laughed them off, saying “First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell. He actually called us up and was like, ‘I don’t know what these guys are talking about,’” meaning that either Russell was just protecting himself or someone inflated something pretty significantly. And even though it came straight from the mouth of Mark Wahlberg himself, Richmond said that casting was nowhere near official.

Fans have screamed out saying that Nathan Fillion would be perfect for the role (I think it treads too close to Mal Reynolds myself) Richmond also admits that the fan voice has been heard. This doesn’t mean that Fillion will get the role, but rather the director has at least heard the outcry.

Personally I am not against Wahlberg in the role, but I would rather see someone like Joe Manganiello in the role. He just has a more macho cocky presence.

  1. Drake is not in his mid 20’s, he is experienced and hardened by his endeavors around the world. An actor that has a look like he has seen things but still has a light heart is ideal. Mark W. isn’t light natured he is too hard edged. Rodney Drake is not Macho he is self deprecating but gets serious when needed. Nathan Drake is Mal Reynolds despite what you said. He is a person who has been stabbed in the back and is untrusting but still has a good natured heart.

The fans of this (I AM) are a strong following and believe me when I tell you, if Fillion can get his ass in shape (been looking fat lately) he is the ideal choice for this character.

    1. And when I say Mal Reynolds and Drake are the same character I mean it as this,
Both do what they do for money and will do generally what it takes to get it done (within their own defined code of ethics)
Both are not good guys, in fact both are CRIMINALS but have hearts
      Silver tongued and quick wit.
Never get the girl (but pretty damn close)
Both have a partner that they keep at arm’s reach for fear of betrayal, Victor Sullivan and Jane

I can go on and on. If you played these games and you watched firefly the comparisons are ridiculous, that is why people are so passionate about Fillion playing the role.

  2. The best part of this, is that when asked about the fans reaction regarding Fillion playing the character and how much people want him in this movie, he said

    “Message received”

Also, not only will Matt not be in it, but the family feud story line will also be out of it, since it was never even in the original storyline. More good news.

Wahlberg has zero charisma, he can only play one kind of character- and the only time he didnt resemble a rock in a movie was Basketball Diaries. So me being against an Uncharted movie with Matt…. I highly doubt Fillion is the ONLY or the “perfect” guy for the role.

Not saying Fillion isnt good for the role, I am just pointing out the fact that it doesnt have to be him. Fans have been getting a little out of hand about this guy, praising him as if hes born to play the role.

    1. You mean Mark… not Matt right?

And he doesnt say Wahlberg WONT be in it, just that its far from official. It still could turn out that way.

And “message recieved” means he has heard the fan choice. It doesn’t mean he will use him.

      1. I don’t really care about Fillion getting the role, there’s a thousand actors that can pull it off. It’s not exactly a tricky role to crack… in my opinion Chris pine would make a decent Drake.

What I do care about is the story itself, the path they were taking this movie was immediately frowned upon by EVERY fab the second it was announced.
