Olivia Wilde talks Tron Legacy Sequel

While a Tron 3 has not been officially greenlit, Disney has reportedly already hired writers for another sequel. But in a recent interview with MTV, Olivia Wilde has her own ideas for a script where her character makes the leap from Digital to the real world.

ReelComix quotes:

“I’m so thrilled to play with Quorra in the human world. It would be sort of like ‘Splash,’ ” she said, referring to the ’80s comedy starring Daryl Hannah as a mermaid unleashed in Manhattan. “I want to see her whispering to laptops and hugging toasters… There’s a whole other chapter ahead.”

As fun as that fish out of water movie might be, I honestly don’t see it happening.

The whole draw of excitement for a Tron film would be the digital world. To see a digital character made flesh and blood just doesn’t have the same appeal.

  1. Everyone on this blog seem very intelligent, but I guess don’t understand what TRON is or represents. Only comparison that can be used is The Original Matrix. Now if you remember when Sam and Kevin are having Dinner, and on the Train the whole plot of TRON universe get’s explained.

SPOILER!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE FILM

    1. The Original Tron was ENCOM’s first big super Computer, named after the game Flynn created. So at the time resource wise, it was first networked computer. Hence why tron was the bad guy, and enslaving all other programs within it’s world. Fynn defeat’s TRON, reprograms and rebuilds The Grid on a private PC in his hidden office at the Arcade.

    2. Since his understanding as a user, rewrites things where in the Grid information is shared and free. Just like he wanted it to be in the real world(Operating Systems, OS 12). Flynn’s vision of free and shared information would bring about better cures that wouldn’t cost billions ect.
    3. Flynn redesign’s the grid from scratch making it the way he wanted the company to be a free information highway. He uses data from Tron to do this. He in essence creates a full functional generated world, with digital Sea, Sky, Weather, City, Mountains. The miracle that he was referring to was that he had all the elements so to speak for virtual life, and then the ISO’s appeared, or came into being. Which this principle goes against everything in evolution. The iso’s Digiatal DNA because it’s in a pc or program are perfect, in retrospect, no imperfections to cause disease, or death. Hence why he was protecting her, she was the miracle. Hence she was his life’s work , his Legacy to the world.

    4. I do see a sequel and I agree i see Cillian Murphey’s character being the bad guy. Since he engineered OS 12, and seemed as smart as Flynn. I can see him with his software knowledge being a huge threat, and finding a way to merge both worlds together.

    5. Spoiler, I believe Jeff Bridges is not dead but in a different form, i believe when he re-integrated he integrated with the Grid which he created. This is what I think Sam was downloading along with all the work his father did. He has the whole GRID basically on his drive.

    1. Your number 1 statement was wrong. Tron was the protagonist of the first movie. He was a program written by Alan Bradley to debug in the original ENCOM Grip. The MCP was the bad guy.

      1. Oh! Sorry Bro. Makes sense that Flynn made a copy of Bradley and named him tron in second movie. I feel stupid mixing those up, I don’t own the original just remember seeing it a lot. But i believe you mean Kevin Flynn was the protagonist, him being main character in the film.

Never mind wiki just confirmed it, Flynn works with Tron to defeat Master Control Program.

        Thanks for correcting me man.

Did you enjoy the Film, I thought it was up there with the original Matrix, I mean matrix had tighter writing, but for a first entry in 28 years I’d say they nailed it.

P.S. Do you think Flynn lives inside the grid as a part of the code, i think that’s what Sam was downloading along with everything on Kevin’s Disc.

  2. I like the Fish out of water concept but…it would not be “anything” like Splash. I suspect she could easily “get a job” an Emcon. (This makes sense) And she could “become a user” herself. (makes sense) As she can “communicate” with the digital world and expansion (?) of The Grid, she will absorb more information (makes sense) as well as mis- information.

Issues of biology (in a Disney way) might be addressed. Makes sense.
But they only way for anyone to give a nut is if she unwittingly carries out Clu’s plan or is manipulated by Dillinger Jr. (Cillian Murphy) into bringing The Grid out into the 2-D world. Th Universes virtually collide; the “programs” find that they can be like The Gods (Users) and thus, Clu’s revolution, now headed by a rebooted MCP, comes into effect.

Tron (and Yuri) come to Flynn, Bradley and Quarra’s aide and stop the revolt!

Not that you’d ever see the movie, of course.

    1. That’s exactly what I thought a sequel would have to be about. Light cycles and Disc Wars in NYC (or wherever Encom is supposedly located), and Cillian Murphy’s Ed Dillinger Jr. as some kind of User Antichrist, complete with redesigned Sark outfit.

It’s just, like, the logical action movie progression here.

  3. #1 > Tron: Legacy was visually amazing; nothing quite like it. Almost like BladeRunner after listening to Trance music for 8 straight hours.

#2 > Music was very well done, and it fit like a glove. I want the Soundtrack!

#3 > The story was quite possibly one of the most convoluted, incomprehensible pile of Komodo Dragon Droppings (TM) that I have ever seen (worse than Syriana).
I mean, I understood that Young Jeff was the villain, and that Old Jeff was the wise elder who guided Sam the Hero; a bit on the Campbell Hero-Quest side; but that was about it. Why were they there? What was the purpose of the Grid? To avoid living in the real world? And Encom – was that a swipe @ MicroSquish or Apple? Or Oracle? Or Proctor and Gamble? I could not quite figure that out.

All in all, a feast for the eyes and ears, but a bit on the difficult to comprehend side.

    1. They are making a killing on toys and merchandising.

It could still show a profit in the big picture. Cars was not Pixar’s biggest film, but they are sequeling that instead of bigger properties. Most likely because of the merchandise angle.

      1. Yes that’s true, but I don’t think Disney is willing to green light another sequel, yet. The film cost $200 million to make and it will need strong B.O. numbers overseas, and to be a hit on the home market just for it to break even.

I mean look at the Narnia franchise. The second one did decent business, but Disney still dropped it. Plus Cars is more marketable and it appeals to more audiences. So I can see why Disney is making a sequel to Cars.

  4. Who cares TRON had no real importance in the flick and Quorra was totally a waste other then her beauty. The movie was amazing looking but seriously True Grit was a way better movie. I felt like TRON just missed everything. Clue was a crap enemy too.

  5. i think they’re planning in advance, something to do with Cillyan Murphy as Edward Dillinger Jr… maybe he gets in the digital world and screws things up…

  6. There HAS to be a sequel. When tron died under the water his yellow lights turn off… and just when you think he croaked he turns on again with a new set of blue lights. Lol why would they do that unlikely
