The big screen adaptation of the 80s Narc Squad TV hit is being written by Jonah Hill, and right now the lead role looks like it might go to Channing Tatum, who is reportedly in talks.
Channing Tatum is at the top of Sony Pictures list of actors to take on the lead role of the Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall scripted 21 Jump Street film.
Deadline reports that the actor will be entering negotiations soon. He will end up starring along side Hill in the film, which is set to be directed Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Channing does have boyish good looks and could fit the bill of a squad of narcotics police that are chosen specifically for their young looks so they can pose as highschool students to bust drug trades. Channing’s acting ability so far hasn’t impressed me. I am not mad at him or anything, and I don’t think he is terrible, but nothing says he should carry a film.
I haven’t had a lot of faith in this Jump Street adaptation since finding out Jonah Hill was involved. The guy just does nothing for me. Granted he is only writing this so maybe I will like him as a writer and he can be successful at that limiting how many movies he actually stars in.
