Shatner to Direct Shatner Documentary?

Looks like there will be a documentary made about the life and career of Canadian actor William Shatner.

And who will direct? It seems like it will be William Shatner!

Ramascreen says:

A feature documentary following the life and career of William Shatner, The Captains will explore Shatner’s Montreal roots and his early career in Stratford, Ontario, as well as the extraordinary change in circumstances caused by the serendipitous casting for the role of Captain James T. Kirk. The film will be directed by Shatner, who will also executive produce with David Zappone and Craig Thompson.

I can think of no one better to do a doc of Shatner than Shat himself.

I just said “shat himself”…

Anyways, Shatner has developed a great level of humility and a sense of humour about his career and his life. While Star Trek losers will forever haunt him (his words) he has had a great career. And while his self involved persona might not be dampened at the task of directing a movie about yourself, Shatner has lived on both sides of that mirror now.

I just wonder how he will handle his Star Trek TV days in the doc. He had to know that some of the cast hated him. Should be interesting to see how he handles the less favourable parts of his career.

  1. I don’t like the idea of someone directing their own documentary about them self. It comes across kind of conceited and it will lack the sense of truthfulness and open honesty that many documentaries employee.

    1. And that’s just it.. Shat has shown a GREAT deal of humility about his own attitude and personal relationships in the past. He knows he is the blunt of many jokes and he knows he earned that status.

In this case, Shatner has had his own wakeup call, and after that shift in his personality I wouldn’t want anyone BUT him doing this.
