Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides sees Budget Cuts

Studios put up big budgets for movies they know are likely to bring them a big paycheque, so you would think that returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise would be a convoy of money trucks for a budget, but it appears the opposite is true.

Disney is tightning the purse strings and Pirates 4 will have to be made for less than originally planned.

Screen Rant shares:

LA Times has run a piece detailing the lowering of the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 budget. The deal is that new Disney chairman Rich Ross is taking things in a new direction by trying to cut down costs on those big-budget special effects extravaganza’s that Pirates producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, is known for.

So with tough economic times, even the spendthrift industries like major motion picture production is feeling the squeeze.

Either that or they saw District 9 and said “that costs how much? Why doesn’t ten times as much look ten times better??”

I am sure it won’t effect the movie THAT much.

  1. Good. I think a lot of movies have a low budget and end up really good, then the sequels get much bigger budgets and the directors get some level of ADHD and are able to put any thought that pops into their head on the screen instead of focussing on just the things that drive the story. PotC 1 did a lot with just a few CGI skeletons and did a lot less with massive storms while battling krakens and ships of fishmen.

  2. I don’t know what it takes to make a movie but its hard to imagine that any movies need to cost more than 150 mil. Cutting back from 200 or over 200 to 150 would seem like a rational idea(Of course I just made these numbers up at random). Only problem my be paying Johnny Depp.
