Harrison Ford talks Indiana Jones 5

Seems the idea of a fifth Indiana Jones film has been batted around, and even a concept may have been suggested by Lucas trying to get Ford and Speilberg in on the game for another round.

DarkHorizons quotes Harrison Ford

The actor tells The BBC that “we’re seeing what comes of it…The process works like this, we come to some basic agreement and then George goes away for a long time and works on it. Then Steven and I get it in some form, some embryonic form. Then if we like it we start working with George on it and at some point down the line it’s ready and we do it.”

My biggest concern is that despite Ford showing that he still had what it took to play Indiana Jones, I really wasn’t that impressed with Crystal Skull. To be fair, I didn’t hate it like some people did, but everything outside of Indy himself was just ok to bad.

However one of the things we heard a lot of while waiting for Crystal Skull was that Ford would just be too old for this shit, and for the most part they were right.

Now they are entering the same cycle of Lucas writing an idea that Spielberg and Ford will get a peek at, some approval process and banging out the dents (and CGI monkeys) and then more waiting and working on it.

People were worried that Ford was too old for it, and he proved them wrong. But the longer they wait again, the more that concern will appear, and there is no guarantee that Ford will be able to shake of that criticism.

I’d love to see them find a mid-younger actor to do a “Not-So-Young Indiana Jones Adventures” movie telling one of the many adventures Jones had BEFORE the Lost Ark.

At the same time, there will be many who hated Crystal Skull who wont want to give this a chance, but I have some hope that there is magic still in that old whip and hat, and if they do get around to doing this again it will be judged on its own.

  1. And one thing Let’s hope George Lucas and Steven Spielberg would continue The Young Indiana Jones Adventures to continue the young Indiana Jones now going to 24 years old and Harrison Ford would return again as the middle aged Indiana Jones he was excellent in one episode which was the best ever!!! I wish Ford could played the role again in only more televised stories like this one say that to George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

  2. The best opinion is to have the well-wrottem script by having not to killed off Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, but he is now going for retiredment for the last time and this would be the last you see Harrison Ford as the original Indiana Jones as he going to become George Hall as the old man Indiana Jones if it only would have took place if only Sean Connery to come back out of retiredment to play Indy’s father one last time to see his character dieing and the same to original cast members Karen Allen, John Rhys Davies, Alison Doody, John Hurt and many, many, many, many more if only this could have pitched to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas to rewrite the script you got yourself the greatest best Indiana Jones film of Indy’s last years.

  3. Crystal Skull wasn’t any better or worse than any other Indiana Jones movies. They basically all have the same flaws, but Harrison Ford and the action in it help most people lose sight of those flaws. Had the “Crystal Skull” been about some ancient god instead of aliens, and had it not literally “nuked the fridge,” Crystal Skull would have been viewed in the same light as the others preceding it.

  4. I enjoyed the Crystal Skull for what it was, a bit of escapist fun and nostalgia.

Having said that, I would much rather they recast Indy with a younger actor (personally I think Timothy Olyphant would be perfect), rather than set up a new franchise with Mutt/Shia taking over the reigns(erm…)

  5. I didn’t like Crystal Skull but I hope they get a move on and make a fifth which delivers all which was good about the originals and moves away from the sci-fi rubbish which encroached on Crystal Skull. At least then the series won’t have ended on a bum note, or I hope not!

  6. I enjoyed Crystal Skull, I don’t understand why a lot of other people hate it, If your a true Indiana Jones fan, You would enjoy the movie for what it is.

I’m looking forward to a 5th Indiana Jones adventure once they get to making it.

    1. I don’t think that statement is true. “If your a true Indiana Jones fan, You would enjoy the movie for what it is.” Just because I’m a huge fan of something doesn’t mean I mean I should embrace whatever is set in front of me. My husband is a huge fan, has the ringtone, the whip, the hat, and the jacket. He didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t amazing. It needed some of the more outrageous clips taken out of it. Aliens… Never should have been aliens. The stupid monkeys… and Shia swinging through the trees like tarzan??? I could have even forgiven the fridge incident. Oh well. I want to see that other screen play that was written come to life. It sounded amazing.

  7. Agreed that Crystal Skull wasn’t great, it was ok. I really liked the TV show that followed the teenage Indy, and would love to see more stories about Indy from WWI through Raiders.

  8. I agree with you Rodney. I didn’t hate it. It was a nice family adventure. But it was without-doubt the worst of the series. I hope they can resuscitate Dr. Jones with this next one. Regardless, I think they should end the series there. I love seeing old guys kick ass (i.e. Sean Connery in LXG, despite the horrible movie it was) and I hope Ford will still be raring to go when/if this unfolds.
No invaders-from-another-film-genre this time, George. Please.

  9. i definitely would want to watch an indy film with harrison ford doing the narration and some action scenes while half of the movie being done by a younger actor. exactly like the young indiana jones chronicles which i loved watching when i was a kid. in fact, even if harrison ford wasn’t the one doing the narration, i would still be on board. as long as they bring back the great stories from the first three movies.
