  1. good point dragonslayer.

but if anyone can point me to a video game that looks as good as that first photo then please do as I would love to see it.

everything in that picture is CG. the ground, the leaves of the plants everything and it looks great.

  2. I’m excited for Avatar. These pictures look outstanding.

And about the whole Video Game thing, there’s been a ton of movies, for example 300, that looked like a video game and in the end a ton of people liked it. So what is all the fuss about?

    1. dude…uuuh when did Sigourney NOT look old. She’s like Al Pacino. Has she EVER been young. haha who CARES. She’s a bad ass and always will be. She could be fightin Aliens with a fuckin CANE and the bitch would STILL be one of the most hardcore badass chicks on the Hollywood streets. She’s too damn cold!

  3. I agree with Adrian – it has a video game feel to it. The trailer looked like something I’d see for the X-Box 360 or PS3. I’m sure some other non gamers feel the same way. It’s not a bad thing, but it’s an honest critique of what’s been seen so far.

On another note, Jeremy K., are you in love with James Cameron, hoping he would secretly take you aboard a Titanic replica so you can draw him wearing nothing but the heart of the ocean? Just curious, since you’re so adamantly defending a movie that nobody has seen yet.

    1. And people are adamantly putting it down as nothing, whats your point? I did see 15min of footage in imax 3D and as far as visuals go, it was probably one of the most impressive things I have seen in a theater.

Why has the Internet become a cesspool of complaining and whining, and as soon as somebody steps up to defend something then all of a sudden they find themselves the ones being attacked? Are you some how offended that I find hope and excitement in a movie based on 15min of footage and history of Cameron only making top notch movies?

In Play it to the Bone there is a comment made, “You build a thousand bridges and your a bridge builder, you suck one dick and your a cock sucker for life.” So to put it bluntly, I have yet to see Cameron suck dick, so I have faith in his ability to make one hell of a bridge.

Then again, I’m also not the type of person that will judge a person’s accomplishments on a fault within a history of amazement. I’ll support a Cameron movie just as fast I will support a Martin Scorsese film, a Ridley Scott film, and a Danny Boyle film. What can I say? I know what I like and who I have faith in as directors.

      Does that answer your question?

    2. “I agree with Adrian – it has a video game feel to it. The trailer looked like something I’d see for the X-Box 360 or PS3.”

No, it’s not like something you’d see for Xbox 360 or PS3. It’s true that the PS3 has yet to be pushed to it’s true potential. It’s capable of running a game in 120 fps. But nobody’s actually done that yet. And even if they did, it wouldn’t look nearly as good Avatar does right now. No gaming developer is that good. No console is that good.

Maybe when we hit the next-gen we can look back and say, “Wow, videogames have gotten as detailed and real-looking as James Cameron’s Avatar,” but at this point we certainly can’t say that James Cameron’s Avatar looks like today’s videogames. Not by a long shot.

      1. Okay, so in style, maybe. But if anything, that’s a compliment, not a flaw. After all, the very best videogames are the one’s with environments so ambient and vibrant that you can’t help but be lost in their world. Games like Halo, Metroid Prime, and Zelda accomplish this. Movies like Shrek and Princess Mononoke have accomplished this in the past.

      2. The video game does look like a video game, and those graphics, though resembling the movie, do not compare to the actual CG work of the movie.

Saying a game based on a movie looks like a game is kinda moot. It’s like saying 300 for the PSP sure does look like a video game. No shit? Probably because it is a video game.

No offense meant, Rodney. I’m just saying.

More examples: Harry Potter games based on the movies sure do look like video games. The LotR games based on the movies sure did look like video games too.

      3. Oh I am not disagreeing. When I hear people whine that effects heavy films “look like a video game” to me its more of a testament to where videogames have come instead of bashing the movie.

There are some cutscenes in films that look outstanding. Even back with Starcraft there were some scenes that, had they been full length movies would have been way ahead of their time.

The stuff we see now (like Final Fantasy cut scenes) are damn near movie quality, and the gap between it and the game play graphics is getting smaller.

      4. Oh ya, agree completely. I think people also should realize is that cutscenes in games are less like a game and more like a movie. The techniques for making cutscenes are far more similar to a movie than a game. But that’s dealing more with back in the day when cutscenes were prerenders. Now and days, with as good as graphics are now, cutscenes are often made with real time using the game engine the game itself uses. This means the cutscenes are not at the quality of a prerendered video; however, they are looking better and better as the capabilities of both games systems and game engines improve. Pretty soon we may be having games that are identical to the quality we see in movies like Avatar, but that won’t be this generation of game systems.

    1. Dude you are a fuckin IDIOT if you think that shit looks like a video game. FACE IT HATER. This movie is as real as it gets with these characters. It makes sense that people would deny it. It is so real people can’t except it. Look at the images on that link Jeremy K posted above. fully enlarge them. Check out the one of the female blue thing’s face close up. Enlarge it, then go down the bottom of her face and slowly scroll up. It looks real as fuck. Sheeeeeit. I fuckin WISH I could play a video game that looked that real.

      FUCKIN IDIOTS.

      1. In case anybody is confused by the reference of me in bjon86’s comment, I had posted a link of these images where you can view them in extremely high res. Not sure what happened to the link, but I recommend you try to find them… they are nothing short of amazing in their detail.
