Pixar NOT Involved in Ant Man

Would all parties officially involved in Marvel’s Ant Man adaptation please step forward.

Oh, Pixar… not so fast.

It seems that the news that Pixar was interested in Ant Man may just end with their expression of interest. Edgar Wright is still attached and confirms that Pixar (as of yet) is not involved.

Collider quotes Wright:

I am still attached to Ant Man and indeed am still working on a second draft with Joe Cornish. That had to take a back seat while I worked on Scott Pilgrim, but am keen to get back into it once I get into post.

Concerning the recent news about Pixar:
The news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on. I love Pixar’s work more than anyone and indeed would love to collaborate with them.

I’m not sure though that they would want to do a ’shrinking’ film as a Pixar animation – since Toy Story and A Bug’s Life already cover this territory to some extent. Am guessing that someone just speculated on the ‘bug’ angle and tried to put two and two together.

The reasoning behind Pixar not being involved is a little speculation, but it is clear that Pixar is not trying to take away this franchise, nor has anyone approached Wright about collaboration.

Earlier when we talked about Pixar taking over the film, I presumed it would be animated. However a while back we heard that Pixar was branching out to have an effects division as well that would allow they to offer services for live action films, which means they wouldn’t totally be ruled out even with Wright still attached to helm this effort.

  1. The only question worth asking ourselves regarding Pixar is how angry John will be if ‘Up’ gets snubbed from the TEN Best Picture nominees at this year’s Academy Awards, and whether we’ll get to see a rant on a video blog!

  2. There’s no need for Pixar to adapt Marvel’s properties to make films, its just not what they do. Disney has plenty of resources available to create an Ant Man film without the uses of Pixar. After all Bolt was a relative success.

  3. Good to hear. I thinkan animated version would work (with obvious omitions) but the character is so complex and emotionally tormented, this is the way to go IMO.
